Its got BGreen and MGreen (a new weapon sort of) on the flanks so that it can engage stuff from the side with almost as much firepower as an Orion class. Definately with better placement too.

Besides being able to kick major ass, the Golgotha really looks cool.

I imagine, with that kind of a weapon, that the Golgotha needs a really big support fleet.

Maybe a Hecate/Orion a Deimos and a few Aeoluses would do.

Actually I'm talking about logistical support from transports and freighters. It would take a LOT of supplies to keep that cannon going.

No, we don't set it in game, but we do set it in terms of story. Its one fixed damage potential, we can do a few tricks using the fire-beam command, but it works as is.

I'm not sure how much we actually play up the logistical support but its mostly in the forms of keeping the components going and working at peak efficiency. It would be quite an effort tho.

the Golgotha uses about the same mount of supplys as an Orion
the thing is totaly devoted to one cannon,
it accelerates the power of (a) standard fusion generator(s) thru a Meson reactor,
I have a prety good explanation of how it works and a cool animation to go with it, but I think I'll just keep that qiet for now.

But im saying that the upkeep on the gun is going to a bit more than a standard ship.

Its not the Colossus tho...and it probably has less crew than a standard destroyer as well.

Considering it's got a significantly reduces fighter complement compared to a 'conventional' destroyer helps as well.... fighters are always the most maintenance-intensive units in a force.

What would happen if you fired the Meson Cannon at a planet?

You'd do some pretty nasty damage to the surrounding area. Something like a H-Bomb I'd assume.

One would hope for the first time in any of the FS games that a major ship would actually have its suppourt fleet in CLOSE suppourt. The Aquitane flagship of a gtva fleet, a destroyer, the heart of the command structure, left sitting disabled in a nebula with no suppourting vessels. All that i want is for a corvetter or perhaps a couple of cruisers there in backup, if destroyers are such important assets why ever deploy them without a protective screen?

Of course not. It's only powerful enough to vaporise lesser capital ships in a single fell swoop.

Didn't think about that.

Be pretty devastating anyways.

Nope - it can only bombard them from high atmosphere, razing all surface structures, not actually destroy them.

And it took many hours to destroy Vasuda Prime
