i personally think that she is just eccentric.
also, i am not entirely sure that those are stock fighters. the only place that combat ready fighters could be obtained would eithbe storage or from a pilot training school. i tend more towards a pilot training school because the apollo, while it is a very good fighter, is docile enough for a new pilot to solo in and begin his final phase of training with. that training would include advanced navigation, craft familiarization, and live weapons training.
while all of this could be taought to the pilot in a simulater, you just can't beat live training for weeding out those pilots who can't cut it.
apollos that are active and in service, even in an auxilery role like primary trainer, will have up to date electronics and targeting packages, as well as being fully operational. a fighter that has been in storage since the great war era will have to be completly refurbished as well getting its engines and thrusters rebuilt and its electronics, targeting packages, communications systems, and sensors upgraded. while this can be done using mostly off the shelf parts, it still takes alot of time.
