Interplay's Wisdom (or lack thereof)

Does anyone around here think that it is rather slack of interplay to not even contemplate letting the volition team look at the possibility of the next Freespace?
Does anyone think a petition or somthing would be in order to show how large the fanbase for the freespace series really is?

It would take a lot of names on that petition. Maybe a few thousand.

yeah, but one of them was part of the Ross 128 network. Just picking up where they left off. and besides, i thought that the story of freespace 2 was left a little open ended, leading to the many wonderful mods that are around and being developed today, but what most people want is something on the form of real closure. Therefore putting things to rest. Most people can see what i'm getting at here, and besides, doesn't anyone want to know what REALLY happens after capella?
(other than the huge explosion of course)

I think that the campain creaters here should work for Interplay so they can have a better chance of persuade them.

If you could get a team of ppl and have them create a campaign using FS2, but completely change just about everything and say "here produce this" that might work. But then we wouldn't need a FS3, when we could just download it as another campaign.

yeah, you never know a freespace 2 campiagn might go the way of Halflife: opposing force and Gunman Chronicles, in that they started out as mods/campaigns and then they got coporate sponsorship.

The disparity in that is the size of the game: look what a money-maker Counterstrike is for Half-Life when you consider it runs more servers than all the other FPS games together. That simply isn't the case with FS2, and besides, you can't even play online with MODs.

I'd be interested to see if, with no apparent prospect of FS3 and the source code potentially up for release, Volition would like to spill any ideas they had for FS3. If nothing else it would be entertaining...

Isn't that the whole point of a computer game?

That's not true, I had my Loki with 40+ gunpoints running perfectly in many, many online missions. (What? Did you think I was really that good in a Loki?! )
