Derelict Mission Error

Alright, I downloaded Derelict a few days ago and have been playing it since then.

I made it to the mission where you are escorting a bunch of science vessels, a medical ship, a freighter, and an ore miner. I've played it three times, mainly because at the end of the mission is says the science vessels were destroyed.

First Try: As far as I could tell, no ships were lost. Sure, there were a lot of Artemis DH bombers hanging around, but the eventually went boom. According to the escort list, the SC's were still at 74%. Reached the Sai, got the heads up and was ordered to leave.

Debrief said I failed.

Second Try: Basically the same thing. The Einstein recieved some more damage than before, but it was still kicking.

Again, the mission debrief said I failed.

Third Try: I got fed up, so I typed in freespace2.com, made everything allied invincible. I changed my weapons to Kaysers and Trebuchets, slagged all the fighters and bombers. Made it to the end, so ships lost.

Once more, the damndable mission debrief said I failed.

I had this big WTF? going through my mind when I read that. Can anyone tell me is something is wrong with that mission, or if I did something wrong myself?

you can't win missions if you cheat, IIRC.

don't know about your problem, though. never played derelict.

Actually, yes I can. Apparantly I've got the OEM version, because only it allows for winning by cheating.

I think I know what you're talking about. There's an escort mission in there (I think its the one you're playing on) that has a faulty SEXP. There's a patch that you can download (a new, reformatted mission) that has the correct SEXP. Otherwise, just die 5 times and it'll ask you to skip the mission. Go to VWA or the Deralict site to get it.

If this is the mission I think it is then the science vessels are supposed to die... Because thats the plot...

Is it the one where you have to escort thes convoy from the node to the outpost? If so, you'll never pass it because you'll always fail. Just die 5 times.

what i do is go into the tbl files, and erase that mission, reroute the perevious mission to the one you want to go to. ( i dunno if this sounds wierd, but go into the table, you'll see what i mean) just make sure you know the mission number

I'm guessing you mean the campaign file. I know what you meant but others might not have.

It will probably be living in the data/missions folder and have the .fc2 extension.

The Einstein has to die. If it doesn't things get really screwed up. That's why there are so many D.H.'s - to make in nigh on impossible to save the Einstien.

why didnt you put in a self destruct sexp instead of all those bombers? That way there would be no possibility of that science vessel living.

Cause there needs to be a good reason why the ship explodes! I for one get annoyed if I get chewed out in a mission debrief for failing to save a ship that couldn't be saved because the mission designer set it to explode.

ya but if its necesary to the story line it should be like that. Just make it so that when the ship gets hit once it cause a reactor breach. Also you would be able to put more stuff in the game.
You could also:

Put the bombers on infinite waves or just a high # of them.

Make the briefing not chew up the piliot about it so much because there obviously was no way to save it.

You could also make a good reason for the sci vessel going down. Like sci vessels have lots of volatile chemicals so you could say that it was one helluva shot on the pirates part.

You asked why they didn't simply set it to self destruct instead of being bombed. I said why

Obviously the testing on the campaign didn't show the bug. Most whoever play-tested the campaign thought that the number of bombers that appeared were enough to ensure the destruction of the ship.

I sure thought so...I remember playing that one a couple of times and I had no opportunity to save it
