Question Earth Atmosphere Model

Does anyone know if there will be any more like that? I liked that idea. Not necessarilly Earth, any planet.

And making high-res planets aint a piece of cake either. That would take some seriously professional artists hours apon hours to do

My knowledge of B5 is virtually non-existent, but isn't that where they found a buried Battlecrab / shadow ship?

I'm sure you can find some decent astronomical piccies - somewhere.

EDIT: actually, i think Jonskowitz is working on a Terrain model for the Marianas trench on Mars.....

Yup, in Messages from Earth (Season 3, the one before Point of No Return and Severed Dreams) Dr. Whatshername told everyone of a Shadow ship (a battlecrab) they discovered buried beneath the Martian soil. As they were digging it up another Shadow vessel came in, finished the job, and the two ships flew off into space happily ever after. Garibaldi was also witness to the unhistoric event and recovered a partially burnt (?) Psi-Corps badge at the excavation site. Dr. Whatshername also stated that the other members of the team that partially dug up the battlecrab were dead or had disappeared into a gaping plot hole.

Be fun if you could fly down trenches and fire at buildings(like a spacestation in FS2 proper but made like a building).

Couldn't you make buildings part of the model? Then you could destroy them as you would a radar thing on the Colossus or something.

or as docked objects...... or use a cloud plane so you can fly up into the cloud base, etc.

I tried making earth into FS2 (inspired by the TBP model) and it looked ok. But the closer I got to earth the more texture glitches i saw. Anyone know if you could do something about the texture glitches.

I was thinking of the buildings, yes being docked into the ground.

If they were seperate models, wouldn't that decrese the amount of actualy ships you could have. Especially if there were a lot of buildings?

I can almost hear Icefire saying:

Did you see it in FS2?

hehe.

Intrigueing Idea, and with a Geforce 2/3 I think you could get smooth gameplay too. My concern is, how BIG are you gonna make it? there probably will be restrictions and what if you reach the edge? it'll look wierd. Unless you really CAN make it very big.

You can build it like a Descent 3 level's outdoor areas. (i.e. bordered by mountains, and a dome using invisible.pcx which prevents you from flying out of the region)

Docking models to the ground would be a good trick.

although only one ship can dock to one other ship. I can't deny that such things are technically possible in the Freespace 2 engine, but without access to the source, planetary environments are very improbable in the engine.

you cold make a humongus space station(like the Death Star in Star Wars) and make all kinds of pointless subsystems as buildings, and texture it like a planet.
