Unused FS2 feature

Hello.

Does anyone And I mean ANYONE..

have any Idea what the targeting laser was SUPPOSED todo in Fs2?

Anybody?

Has no reason...

Except if you take out the ssm.tbl out of the root vp and then change the table so it launches ...say Helios and then whenever you have the targeting laser over the ship for 2 seconds it'll warp in [10?] helios.
Amount and closeness depend on how you changed the tbl

The SSM? It's been done, by bobbau. Kinda cheesy, if you ask me.

10 helios.....sheesh.

this is what my ssm.tbl has:
quote:

;; subspace missile strike definition

#end

What do I put in there to get the strike?

Um....I think the archives here have it. I've never played around with it, like I said, I find it cheesy. Or ask bobboau.

Posted by IceFire on 05-27-2001 12:11 AM:

I tried it...we did experiment with the idea for BWO, but its not stable, consistant, or balanced.

The targeting laser summons a set of missiles from subspace that strike the target ship. You have to have the details in the SSM.tbl file and you need to make the Targeting Laser allowable on a player fighter. Then you'll see what happens for yourself.

Posted by Omega on 05-27-2001 03:38 AM:

That or you can basicly prolong the helios lifetime and the targeting laser should work just fine.

In tBE I've worked out a system to balance the sub-space missile strike capacity.

The question that remains is how to cram it into the story arc which is quite tight. (ranging between 10-14 missions, with linear branching)

If it's not in the campaign, I will have the balanced weapon system in the table files for someone to raise from the dead...

Hella cool! That's the best thing Ace has done so far

Posted by boct1584 on 05-28-2001 02:00 PM:

It's still in the game because [V] forgot to take it out after the beta stage.

Posted by Orange on 05-28-2001 04:38 PM:

I don't think they forgot.. they probably left it in there for us to play around with.

They give us more than we give them credit for

Make a new text file named SSM.txt

Enter the following information into it...
copy-paste preferred
;; subspace missile strike definition

$SSM:
+Weapon: Helios
+Count: 0
+WarpRadius: 200
+WarpTime: 10
+Radius: 500
+Offset: 1000
#end

and then save and close the file...
rename it SSM.tbl
wala...

Remember to change the 'count' to how many helios you want to warp in or nothing will happen....
at this setting the helios will warp in in 10 seconds.

Gah, this would be better:
$SSM:
+Weapon: BFRed
+Count: 10
+WarpRadius: 500
+WarpTime: 1
+Radius: 500
+Offset: 1000
#end

Some fireworks
I haven't never even tried SSM so I don't know if it works.
