Blue Star

Hi all.

I can not finish model. It has 2000 polys. But if I esteblish 1500 or less polys it model looks abnormally. May be someone knows is there a new version of PCS or any other program?Screenshot here

You don't need 1500 polys to model that. In any event, check the "latest versions of everything" thread in the Source Code Project forum at Hard Light Productions.

So some of the fans are creating there own models. Are you fan modelers going to post these ship models up?

Looks great!

I hope it will find it's way into TBP someday. Can't wait to see it with glow-/shinemaps

Will never happen. Not with a poly count like that. However nice the model may or may not be.

Question

I could convert it to POF file, but the game breaks when reads it file. I do not understand it beacause there are no problems with addition of model in fred. (Using version of HTL 01_20_2004). Help please.

FRED is more forgiving than the actual game engine in terms of what is acceptable and what isn't. No four sided polys the mesh can't be broken anywhere and so on.

The screen shot you've posted of your bluestar has some areas that could use paring down. The guns and various attena look to have several edges to them...make them triangles and cut down on their overall poly usage...that may give you as much as 100 polys or more off the mesh (not sure how many you have in there). There's also some areas along the wing and internally that could be reduced ever so slightly with little loss of shape and much gain in terms of polys.

Overall good work on things there...it does look good but you should probably knock the poly numbers down. For a ship thats going to get seen potentially in large numbers...and with todays engine upgrades a maxium of 750-850 polys should be maintained (plus LOD's). Good luck!

Thank you IceFire
I shall do it, but it is a pity, that it is necessary to cut down polys.

I'd say those numbers are spot on. Certainly no more than the 800-850 subobject limit, to ensure compatability with the retail game engine.
