Given that a ship doesn't have as much time to accelerate whilst in hyperspace your figures are not unreasonable but still probably more like 1 light year = 1000 miles.

I know, a light year is equal to 5,878,499,812,499 miles. However my point was that one light year in real space is on average equivalent to 1000 miles in hyperspace.

Is there any correlation between hyperspace and realspace (ie gravity wells and things where stars and planets are) such as in Star Wars that makes it hazardous to just go into hyperspace and wander around aimlessly?
What happens to a star if someone opens a jump point into it from hyperspace?

Actually, the computer voice specifies that it is continuing to note atypical solar emissions...atypical meaning something unusual is going on.
And what if you, say, interfered substantially with the mass of the sun by, say, causing a series of jump points to open up *inside* the sun across several days?
You'd also substantially decrease the mass of Sol, which as I understand it, would result in the sun going nova.
A lot of folks have found the eventual "going out" of Sol to be depressing...but as was stated 'way back in our VERY FIRST EPISODE, this is the one thing we can be sure WILL happen, sooner or later (probably later). Ed. note: "Infection" was indeed the first episode shot, but aired fourth.
All the more reason to get off the planet, asap.

Hmm...that'd be the ultimate weapon then wouldn't it? Just send a couple expendable ships into hyperspace to mess with an enemy homeworld's star. No planet killers needed.

ehh well yep you open jumppoint and well the solar mass comes swarmongi into hyperspace and why cant there be battles in hyperspace??

In the words of General Lefcourt, "It's too volatile." Maybe with all the trouble of keeping track of beacons and staying on course, nobody would really want to fight unless they have to or else risk everyone getting lost in the fray. There are some instances of fighting that I can remember, though they were always very small scale confrontations.
-Shadow Battlecrab vs. Warren Keffer's Starfury
-Buncha Vorchans vs. Whitestar w/ Delenn & Lennier
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Whitestar destroying shadow fighters and stealing the boatload of frozen teeps.

Reasons for not fighting inside hyperspace:
You lose your engines, you die.
You get lost, you die.
You lose the capship during a long journey, you probably die.
You run out of fuel, and forget about the rescuing support ships: you die.
I'd fight on HS only if I were sure that I was going to win (i.e. if I was the organic processor aboard a Battlecrab).
Anyway, play the hyperspace mission on Lady Rose's campaign and reduce that 3500 AWACS range to 1000 meters, play on hard level, and don't get lost in hyperspace. Now THAT'S a challenge
