B5: the centauri are the most stupid looking aliens I've seen
DS9: Best masks so far
....overall....the story of DS9 was quite nicer and there were less "booooring" episodes....a thing that kept me watching B5 when it ran here... (...I am just thinking of River of Souls....*wake me up*)
Another point:
ST9 was NOT as good as ST8. The atmosphere was much more exciting...ST9 had more depth in the characters, but ST8 was the thing I call perfect, thrilling horror-atmosphere....a bit short, tho...

Man you guys must be on dope!!!
B5 + moring than SG1 and ST???!!! Perhaps it is in thw 1st season but not from 2nd and on!
Sg1 was a good series but 80% of the time Mcgyver (
) was hoping from planet to planet with his friends hunting "rotten" humans with alien magots inside them.
Rarely the episodes were more than bizarre and hadn't much action. Only the last episodes (few more) realy rocked.
DS9 was too much routine medium Sci-fi, even though the efects and characters had good quality.
I liked better Startrek:Voyager specialy since when that new advanced alien species gives a whooping on the Borg.
Startrek moovies had only 3 or 4 moovies that realy caght my atention. The original SW moovies are true landmarks for me.
Andromeda is good but it is stiil in its 1st season here and its full apreciation is yet to come, so far its in the same level as ST:voyager.
B5 was undoubtely the best Sci-fi series of all times, ever since the shadow war to civil war it rocks all the way throgh.
The moovie ITB is to me bettar than any ST moovie. You Pro-earth-radicals probably dislike it
it is bad for your ego LOL

Yikes! I guess people do not love Tolkein!
Even though sci-fi and fan-sci are different the story quality still applies... Tolkein was the best writer of fiction as far as I am concerned... And JMS takes second place...
As far as the best book ever... I give the Bible hands down... What a complex book. Such greatness that it is still around 2000 years later in many languages... It is the best seller of all time and continues to be so! Gotta thank J.C. for such a great book to live by.
I think farscape and B5 have sort of tied up for my #1 vote. Also I think the last episode of Voyager was intersting, the borg finally got their arses whooped once and for all. I unfortunatley do have to admit that Star Trek was unrealistic, but hey, isn't a good stroy supposed to take your mind away from reality?

Definitely on your side there, ArchAngel.
Farscape is a personal fav, but somehow Moya just isn't as cool as a whitestar.
I'm afraid that this conversation is missing one really important sci-fi/Fantasy series, though. The absolute penultimate series ever;
Final Fantasy. Probably the single best series EVER. True, there are really good ones (7 and 9) and really bad ones (Mystic Quest and 8) but it's always something new. The stories are each original, and for the most part very cool. Not only that, the movie was proly the single most awesome cinema event I've ever experienced aside from the Star Wars Special Edition releases.

LEGO
ok suppose i can let u in on this as soon as SG1's season 6 has aired there will be a Stargate SG1 feature film which will lead into the new series Stargate: Atlantis
Yeah B5 "is" the best sci-fi show so far, but I am starting to re-evaluate by ideas on it basically due to Farscape. The characters and plots are getting beter and better season1 was a bit pants but I stuck with it and season2 is amazing. Season 3 is better still and it's been signed for another 3 seasons at least.
As Shadowboy states Moya isn't as cool as a White Star but Talyn could kick a White Star's butt any day of the week and it looks cooler too.
Top 8 Space based Sci-Fi Series
1. Babylon 5
2. Farscape
3. Star Trek:TNG
4. Star Trek DS9
5. Stargate:SG1
6. Star Trek Voyager
7. Star Trek: TOS
8. Enterprise ( only seen one ep so can't really place it higher)

Here's why B5 beats out Trek:
1) That Beureau 13 guy in DS9- hmmm remind us of anything?
2) Ongoing epic plotline vs. alien of the week
3) No Welsey Crusher (they shoulda let the Borg have him)
4) In Trek the bad guys are bad, the good guys are good, in B5 everybody has a bad side.
5) Ivanova could kick Janeway's ass.
6) B5 has NO chief engineer and does not use technobable. (at least to the extent of Trek)
Although there is one thing I would like to see. With no explanation Ivanova and Kira are both in Quarks. Quark remarks about Ivanova's looks...fill in the rest. No explanation, no subspace rifts or plot devices, just Quark getting the crap kicked out of him.

You cannot compare Star Wars to anything other sci-fi series. It is simply the best! And then comes Babylon 5 and after that comes Stargate and then something else than Star trek. I hate Star trek, but I like finnish version of it. Name as "Star Wreck". It has some fame in finland and mayby some in outside of finland.
Hey Mr.Fury you just bring the Tuntemattoman sotilaan in my mind! Like Vanhala said:"But doesn't one Finnish soldier equals ten Ruskies?"
And that what you said is right!

When it comes to Trek fans, I think you have to differentiate the casual viewers, and the guys who dress up in Klingon garb, when there is NOT a convention in their town.

I'm actually running a cool hybrid roleplaying adventure in which Talyn ended up mating with a whitestar. The game is based entirely on the child of that encounter. really cool ship.
As for talyn beating a whitestar in combat... I dunno, talyn really only has the one gun, and I'm willing t bet that thanks to Sheridan, every whitestar comes fully equipped with nukes....
