New config
Whoooohooo it's been a whiiiiile since I last posted here! The reason is: On my actual machine I cannot play FS2 anymore, due to some weird incompatibility problem with my motherboard and WinXP...
But I'll soon get a brand-new comp. I really want to install FS2 on it. I heard some weird stuff about FS2 and newer computers, anyway, that are upseting me. Like it was running twice or more its normal speed, or something like that... Is that true?
The config is:
P4 3,06Ghtz
Geforce FX 5600 128mb DDR
1 GB DDR ram, 400Mhtz
WinXP pro
(No, I'm not especially rich, but I need it in my field of work)
Any clue? Thanks

I've heard of a few problems with FS2 and XP but it runs fine on my machine and it's pretty new so you'll just have to try it and see.

Running it in compatibility mode seems to fix most things.

Thanks, guys!
I certainly hope it will run. Otherwise there's a comp that is going to learn about how to fly when throwed out the window from the 7th floor...

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want a computer in which XP is no problem and you can play FS2 all day long, trade that "diamond" of yours with my Pentium 2 266 Mhz!!!!
Due to the large Ram (128 Mb!!! In those days that would be like putting 8 Gbs of Ram in you P4!!) my P2 has you can run FS2 in maximum resolution!!
Just don't try to play TBP in max... those models are even better detailed than the game's original!!!
P.S.
Be sure that you didn't push the speed up button!!!

Neat. The choices of video card (the FX line, save for the FX5900/5900 Ultra, is quite disappointing performance wise) and CPU (the P4 3.0C is only marginally more expensive than the Northwood 3.06 and it's 800Mhz FSB makes it both faster and better able to utilise that DDR400 RAM of yours or you could save a lot of dough by buying the 2.4C and o/c'ing it to 3.0Ghz) are questionable but the rest seems alright. What motherboard are you planning to get? i865 and i875 are the Intel chipsets worth even considering for new P4 rigs these days.

The motherboard is a Micro ATX.
I still have to get the exact references about the processor, however. But it's not a 3,06, I've made a mistake. It shows "intel P4 3 ghtz".
As for the Geforce, the cost difference between the FX 5600 and FX 5900 is way too big. I need the machine for applications such as Maya or After effects. The most demanding is compositing (both ram and processor). Gaming is only optional. And I won't get a Radeon, since Alias Wavefront support for this card is, sadly, very poor. They developped a plugin specifically for the FX series chipsets, and you won't notice a big difference between a 5600 and a 5900, apparently.
Of course I would have loved getting a bi-processor motherboard, but I'm not Donald Trump
