Doesn't really help. What error. Which patch....auto update or downloaded from Volition?

if downloaded manually, make sure it's the right patch you downloaded. got that same problem myself, I think.

You might want to make sure you have the latest DirectX installed as well as the most recent drivers for your video card.

I also had that problem one time when I reinstalled FS1. The patch would never fully complete because of 'some error' (sorry I don't remember exactly what it said right off the top of my head). I downloaded and installed the latest DirectX and, to my overwhelming relief, the patch worked after that.
