playing online

I'm want to try it out, but when I looked there were only 4 or 5 compatible servers (1.3), and I didn't have the maps (not to mention they were empty )! Where could I get the most common played maps, and is 1.2 really as bad as I've read in earlier posts?
And does anyone know if you can download 1.1 or 1.2 patches off the net? I can't find them.

Exclamation

The Red Faction site is back up! I just happened to try it again and it worked, tho it's last news is the [V] hiring from Dec13, but it's there! And I can get the 1.2 patch there! yay.
And I found 1.1 at RFHQ too, except when I download it, it's damaged every time!
Then I found it at some site which language (Russian I think from the url, lol, and I think I've seen Russian writing before too...) I can't even begin to read much less understand (but it was NA patch by name, so it should be good!)

So I gots all the patches, so I will have the most compatible, what maps/mappacks should I get if I want to play online???

okay
1)Every download on the rfhq server is corrupt, its a server issue but JeT isnt really sure why. Plus he retired from RF so could really care less :P

2)1.2 is odd, I can go a week without seeing a cheat but then see about 10 in 10 minutes. The trick is to find servers running a)custom maps or b)have active rcon users-very few cheaters actualyl take the time to download a map. Hell would you take time out to find and download a map just be be banned?

3)Grab maps from rfview.net or aodmeagain.com

As per what maps to get, I suggest wait until you get kicked for not having a level, refresh the server, get map name then go get it. I have probably 400+ maps, but play MAYBE 10 of them. Rf was a game where custom maps never really caught n for whatever reason :|

Exactly, the laziness of people knows no bounds. Although it gives me an easy way to get modders with Hex edit names out of a server. just load up a custom map and there I go.

Personally I feel like a n00b whenever I get kicked for not having a map, and am SO sick of Checkmate its not even funny, but whatever lazy people are always going to be lazy people.

so no 1.3 then really? they made it to prevent cheating and no one is using it? bah that stinks.
and are there any custom maps that are played more often than others or is it really a big random deal.
I found out about not being able to download them from the server, which is a bit of a bummer especially if there isn't specific mappacks that they use or something (such as Farslayer's I see a whole lot of on map sites).

I switched back to 1.2 and just had a go at it, and wow, that is fun! Too bad that the geomod limit isn't much longer, could be more fun!

I've went and downloaded all the mappacks from rfview, but I have one question, at rfhq there's a Farslayer mappack20, yet at rfview it only goes up to 19 and that pack says it's the final one, is it???
I also went and got a whole bunch of tools for Red Faction as well (patch switcher and map launcher, they sound useful )

Well without getting into too much of "the history of RF" Farslayers Mappack 20 was his final mappack, which was the farewell mappack to his server with which he passworded the server for a few final hours and some of the reg's played the new maps.

As for what to get....rail maps....for some reason people enjy playing with 1 weapon? Why I dont know...But the easiest way is when you get kicked find out what level it is and go grab it

Awesome, thanks for the info.
Is it hard to tell when someone is cheating (or if it's lag), or more to the point what kind of cheats are there to look out for?

its not a real cheat its called MODDING, the most common things are flying through walls, and shooting incredibly fast, if you ever hear what that sounds like youll know what im talking about.

I think I've seen that firing stuff, with pistols (or that may have been lag) but definetly with the rail driver once! sheesh that was a bad game!

Ever heard of Instagib in UT/UT2K3 ?

well thats the whole purpose of using the rail. 1 SHOT KILL !

you have one shot to kill him so it takes alot of aim and skills to be able to clean the place in a Rail map. And its fun to see people telling each other "ns" from time to time.

lmao..I've been banned many many times accused of cheating.
It's not nice to hear YOU RAPID *** CHEATER.

maybe it's cause i'm still using 2 fingers on 1 button with Pistol and Precision...it may sound like you have some RAPID mod but of course it's only your fingers working! The ROF (rate of fire) sux in RFs Prec..., Pistol, but hopefully they have a ROF in this weapons in RF2.
