I just got Red Faction! I'm a bit slow at getting these great games , and I've been itching to play it but I haven't had any luck yet at getting it to work!

I can get in the game, and the first thing I did was show my brother Glass House, but as I was laying out detpacks and setting them off around the house my computer froze, I could still look around, the arm was still animated, but nothing would repsond other than that, not even ctrl-alt-del, i've installed the 1.2 patch, but does the 1.3 fix bugs or just the cheating?

I read another post about extending the geo mod limit, but what do you use to edit the tables.vpp? is it the vppbuilder?

why is redfaction.com gone? and are there more console commands then the ones in the readme.txt?

Btw the Red Faction Demos (International and Worldwide) worked perfectly fine for me, so this freezing is a mystery.

my system specs are:
Amd Athlon 1Ghz
256mb RAM
Geforce 2 MX400
SB Live! soundcard

Any help is greatly appreciated, thx.

It's worse than I thought, at times a key will get stuck and nothing else responds, it's strange! I don't understand it, ack!
All I have is a logitech cordless keyboard and mouse, but the demos worked fine for me before!!! the only thing different is the drivers, euuugh, I don't want to have to go get old drivers...
plz, give me words of support at least, I am lost.

I have been searching extensively for an answer with no luck!
I sent THQ a support thingy, and I've been looking evrywhere I can think of, and so far all I've found is that other ppl are having this problem (cursed Gamespy forums, no one answers much there!).

1.3 only fixes cheating in multi nothing else.

Um...do you have EAX enabled? thats pretty much the biggest problem with anything. only thing I can think of offhand :\

This is in single player mode I take it?

Make sure there are absolutely NO other programs working behind the scenes on your computer. Make sure you have enough memory but other then that I have no clues why you aren't able to play this game.

I too am trying to find out why the official Red Faction sites are gone.

Do I need to quote Jim Morrison here?

I tried disabling EAX as well, but the same thing still occured.
I've only tried Glass House and the Training, and I've never been able to finish training, tho the last time I made it to the elevator at the end then it froze.
I hope I'll get some sort of answer from THQ.
And I'll try shutting everything off but the necessities next time, thanks for the help guys, appreciate it!
I've updated to the latest DirectX... seems to me to be making more problems since! I am having no luck!

Just a few quick comments/questions

1)Is anything Overclocked?
2)Does this happen with other games as well?
3)Ive heard of problems with RF being on drives other then C: so if you are on D: you can always try to reinstall to C:

other then that offhand I got nothing.

BTW have you tried RF 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2? Maybe your PC just doesnt like 1 version of another as well? Its a longshot..but you never know

1)nothing, I dont like trying that stuff with this machine
2)all other games run fine... except CounterStrike but that's a different story
3)no partitions for me! right to "C:\games\RedFaction"

I patched it to 1.2 as soon as I installed... hmm that's another good suggestion, thanks!
I've been busy and haven't had the opportunity to try other suggestions yet , with any luck I might stumble across a solution! (or with any luck THQ will have one!)

found out something else, my computer really isn't freezing up, it's more like that, how when a certain control is stuck (running forward, etc.), the game is just freezing all controls, becuase after a while if the game is left alone (all I do is try to reconnect the cordless keyboard) it will eventually unfreeze...
so the plot thickens....

EUREKA!!!!!

IT WORKED!!!!!! cece had it with turning off all other progs in the background! Bwahaha, I made it through Training, I am now on the first mission, mwahahaha!!!!!!!11

Now I'm going to try to narrow it down... I have a good idea that it's the logitech drivers themselve... but I can't be sure....

edit: spoke too soon, tho closing the logitech programs does make the freezing occur about 1/4 the amount () it does still occur.

and 1.3 acts as a noCD patch too???

Aight youve got 2 bugs here...

First bug is sticking of keys (ie your going foward without pressing the button or your gun is firing without u pressing the button etc...) Quick Fix is 2 repress the button that is jammed and you will gain control of your character again I still get this 1 a lot its no big deal but i dont think there is a fix for it.

Second bug where either your keyboard or mouse stops responding. Ive never heard of any1 else having this bug except me... Only way i could solve this (much like yourself) is as soon as it freezes pull out the mouse and put it back in (or keyboard depending on what freezes but it always seemed 2 be my mouse that did it. Also this isnt an RF only bug i think its your motherboard... Just 99% of the time it happened to me was in RF. You can also get away wif this bug... i did, just make sure you have easy access to your Mouse and keyboard ports Ive never expecrained this bug wif my new PC + never found a fix for it. (maybe your system needs better cooling)

I think the 2 bugs are really the same tho, just 1 point it's freezing the control, the other, its freezing the game or maybe that there is no ocntrol being used at that time, so it just freezes. If i press the power button, which is set for shut down (as in close down windows and shut down), it will close the game and shut down the computer, so I think you're right with the problem being the keyboard/mouse, tho I never tried unplugging the port at the back.
I checked out the [url=http://www.forumplanet.com/3dactionplanet/redfaction/]Red Faction section at ForumPlanet[/url] (from [url=http://www.3dap.com/redfaction]Sector 5[/url]) and there have been people there who've reported the same issue, but no one figured it out, and no one replies whenever I post a comment or question!
My solution which reduced freezing by about 90% (give or take, just trying to emphasize how less it occured), was to close everything except explorer and systray.

In fact I just beat the game yesterday, fun stuff!
I love the rail driver , but I was quite disappointed with the fusion launcher.

Ever tried other drivers?

I had the same problem, but I used the standard windows drivers(No wireless keyboard).

Maybe it'll work for you.

This problem was likely caused by the latest nvidia drivers. I had the same problem with the keyboard locking up so I went to an earlier set of drivers.

The 30.82 drivers work well and anything except the latest set.

the only time my keyboard and mouse drop themselves is when me USB hub ****z itself.. so i wait bout 15 seconds.. then regain control of the game.. it shjtz me off when playin multi..

I thought it probly would be the driver's too, since when the demos worked, i was using the 29.## or 30.## set, but then I had a slightly less problem of having the game spontaneously PAUSE on me for no reason! Though I suppose that's better than freezing completely.

I've been able to beat it now tho, and multi hasn't been too appealing, so I think I'm fine for it now, thanks!
