My Red Faction Wont work now

Sadly, my rf wont work now...
I need help... when i installed win2k my game started to lock-up. I've beaten the game when i had 98 installed. I run a P-III 500, 128 MB, Voodoo3 3000, Win2k. Please give me some pointers on what to do now.

All that happens is i get in the menu and after the first push of any option, it locks up and i have to restart my computer. What do i do?

Please help....

1) Download and install the patch.

2) Make sure it's installed in a folder with one word (example: c:\games\RedFaction\)

3) Win2k has a dual-boot feature just like WinME. Try running Win98 as the alternative OS.

Have you tried to put the optional command line for Voodoo3 cards in setup? The read-me describes how to go about it.

Wish me luck

I'm going to try both suggestions. My game is and was installed under c:\games\redfaction, i've downloaded the patch (again), and am using the the "-voodoo3" substring. I can't however install 98 on my system. I no longer have the disc.

-Nope, didn't work. All that happened was my game started. I went to training to see what happened, it loaded and showed me a half rendered elevator and froze. No change. I have directx 8.0. I've been told that 8.1 isn't good and slows the computer. Should I download that? Does anyone know where i could find a NEW driver for my voodoo that might work better. That is what i think it is. The patch did nothing.

PLZ HELP ME... I love the game but can't play it.

I dont have win2k so I cant give any advice on that. My Voodoo5 5500 works great with RF with both Dx8.0a and DX8.1 (my current setup), but I use Win98se.

No Help... I have downloaded directx 8.1 and still no help. However i've noticed something... When i tried to play quake 3 (a poor substitute) I got an error that OpenGL wasn't able to load. What now? I've downloaded just about every win2k driver and they all come up with the same


error:Error, Subsystem Vendor ID:
PCI\Ven_121A&DEV_0005&SUBSYS_103A121A&REV_01

is not listed in
C:\...\3dfx\Driver2k\Voodoo3.inf

Please Update the C:\...\3dfx\Driver2k\Voodoo3.inf file so install can procede

OH YEAH BABY!! IT WORKS!! IT ALL WORKS!! Red Faction, Quake 3, Jediknight II, Soldier of Fortune, They all work. To Fix the Problem I set one of the lines of code in the voodoo info file to what my computer wanted and it worked!! Buyah BABY!!
