Arrow Download the "Morningstar" Preview!!!

Hiya! as a few of you know I have been working on a short CG film for more than two years. The preview has been finished for a while and I found a site that is hosting it. Now keep in mind this version of the preview is rather poor quality. It is only 420x210 and has several artifacts and some compression quality issues. Once we have the our version online it will be 800x400 resolution and the bugs have been worked out. However I honestly don't know how long it will be untill we get the new version online, and once we do it will be a Gig and a half tall download. This version is only 23 megs. So by all means check it out and post your thought, (positive and negative) here or email me at shawnweixelman@hotmail.com

the link is-
ftp://modzer0.cs.uaf.edu/filmclub/movies/01fall/FFF08-morningstar.wmv

Happy downloads and thanks for your support!

1.5 gigs? Helllllllllllllllllo broadband. You guys sure you can't cut that down with MPEG2 or DivX5? I can get you in touch with some *superb* encoders, who can work magic, I swear, with their programs.

Second: Woah. That's sweet. My only major gripe is the voiceover in the beginning. Voice is a bit too "rough and gravelly" for my tastes, plus listen to hard consonent sounds, there's a "puff" of exhaled air. Studios have a trick to cut that sound out while keeping everything else intact; might want to talk to some audio guys.

I believe it's a foam filter placed a few inches from the mike and you speak through the filter into the mike, but I don't know the mechanics of it. Anyways, aside from the voiceover at the beginning I was extremely impressed. Extremely. Impressed. A lot.

Here, I'll pull an Edwin move: IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!

Thumbs up

Very awesome movie, however like alphakiller siad the narrator could've had a clearer voice. Other than that I liked it

very, very nice. the voice was a little hard to understand, but very nice.

question, a gig and a half is a lot, not only to download, but hard to deal with space wise. So i ask could't you set up multiple (proberly a lot) down loads of those rar files? And then just d/l all of them and run the first file so it creates the 1.5 gig file?(ok so your taking up twice as much space, but then you could just delete the created file, and burn the rar files to a (few) cds) i ask only because it would be very hard to get 1.5 gigs on a cd, but if their where a lot of indivudal files you could fit them on a few cds. if not then maybe its time i pick up one of those dvd burners that those young whiper-snapers talk so much about.

once agian very nice. is this "Morningstar" have (or will have) a story, or is it just this something you felt like doing?

Well considering its not a movie funded by a 40 million dollar bank loan like normal movies, I'd say its HELLA GOOD.

They modelled everything themselves and looks damn fine.

the voice-over's accent is good and perfect for this kind of narration, but they can't exactly hire actors with their budget of $0 so you know, the creators are using their own voices, and its good.

I just think the outsides of ships need more texturing, a bit of color maybe they're all plain grey? but its too late for that.

The effects were cool, although the good guys didn't fire much

and you couldn't hear the voiceover clearly when the aliens were talking

Actaually that is MY voice, over a $5 PC mic, while I had lerengitis. I will consider reworking the sound file. I wanted to add camera shaking anyway.

We will be releasing 3 versions;

800x400 1.4 gigs
640x320 1 gig
320x210 368 megs

All these sizes are unzipped but the files are already pretty compressed so zipping won't help much. Codec is Indeo 4. We chose it because almost everyone has it, though we like divx better.

Keep in mind there are only three guys working on this thing. I made and textured all the models and built most of the scenes. And two friends of mine are working on rendering and streamlining the scenes.

I'm not all that happy with the textures but then texturing really isn't my bag. I'm a good modeler, but and my textures usually come out a bit simple. The fighters textures however is VERY highly detailed, with control panels, kill marks stenciled on the hull and carbon scoring around the engines, as well as a numbered designastion 1-14 on the nose and ventral wing and a squad logo the "49th Wasps".

Any opinons on the character work? It was all done in Poser, and we're considering redoing it all in Maya but that would be alot of work, do you think it would be worth it?

Thanks for your input.
