very big very very big - if your on 56k its going to take you a while to download thats for sure - best bet would be to find someone with dsl or something adn get them to downlado it for you and burn you a copy onto cd or i think there are some sites where you can pay them to download it and burn it onto cd for you etc others that let you download it over several days in bits etc

You guys will be releasing it in a number of consumable packages, right? So those of us with dialups won't choke on it for the first five dl's and then just give up?
That's what I heard previously, anyways.

The demo is released in packs. At least that is what I believe what others are planinng.
There will be...
Musics = about 34 megs
Sounds = 6-8 megs
Models = 6-9 megs
Missions = 200k (ideal for us modem users)
Effects (backgrounds and stuff) = 3-5 megs
Comm-anims, command-anims bla bla -anims = a lot? (45 megs? don't know exactly)
Voices = ???? Skullar or Blacksheep would probably know...
Or then we are selffish bastards and release a 120 meg pack which you have to download. HAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!

Quite ironic how us FREDers don't get credit for much cuz our stuff is smaller *sniff*

R u going to release some parts of the mod a few days before the other parts, like is the music was released a few days prior it would give everyone with a slow modem time to download it and beable to play the game with all of the music and stuff.

Bah! In my time I've gotten the 120-250 meg demos of MechCommander 2, Red Faction, and Elite Force _all_ on my wimpy little 56k! So don't threaten me with massive file sizes! If I get impatient, I sick my 128k ISDN on j00!!!
BTW, I think that there should be a main file (models, effects, missions, tables, interface art, etc.) and separate files for music and voices.

I don't see a problem, there is no reason to split up the download of essential components with Getright it will be easier (and probably quicker) to download one part rather than several and no reason to download them in parts even if you have a 14.4kb modem with dialup.
Of course optional parts should be in seperate files.

no, splitting into sectors is a very good...
U hit cancel by mistake, server restarts or whatever happens, and the WHOLE THING is lost.... plus, with sectors, you download the models, and missions (less than 10 megs) and you can play while the rest downloadS!

We will DEFINATELY be splitting the downloads up. Not only to make things easier for 56k modem users, but also because if a particular section is updated, you can grab the new section.
We may be releasing several parts before the main download yes. Music I can definately see coming out sooner. I'm tweaking a few more files before release and adding yet another track from Shadow Dancing.
Additional bonus and optional music will be available later.

I used getright before I got cable
but why the hell are you so confident? why do you WANT to risk screwing up the download? and if you press cancel by mistake, or server restarts, even GETRIGHT cant save your ass.

yes it can.
and its bloody hard to press cancel by mistake.
point is you need getright whatever your connection, its just more important the slower your connection.
file size shouldnt affect anybody.
and if your against having to get getright and your going to be stubborn about it well thats your own problem personally i make sure i sure getright for anything over 2Mb.
