Question about Freespace 2 (not mod related)

I just finished the Single Player Campaign.. and I must say the story was good, and the cutscenes sucked... and the ending was abrupt!

What were the Shivan juggernaughts doing at the Capella star? I've asked many people and they say that since there are no plans to produce Freespace 3, no one will EVER know.

There must have been SOME reason... some story... does anyone know? And if not, who on the Volition staff do we get the Teeps to scan... and then mindwipe for their insullence?

Bosch spent the better part of 30 years studying the Shivans, and all he came out with was slaughter. He thought he could communicate with the Shivans..but in many ways the Shivans are like the Shadows...They just want to create conflict.

The Juggernaughts at the star, in my theory, were there creating a subspace field ( as mentioned ) to destabilize the star from the inside. When this happened, many warped out, a few stayed behind and finished. The disruption cuased the star to go Nova. Depending on whether you made it out or not you saw two different cutsceens....

Why would of they wanted to stabilize the star?

Well my speculation is simple, but It does sound little bit dumb... The Shivans blew up the star because they wanted to end the War for the while (this doesn't any sense because they would of won the war anyway) or they tried to make a massive JumpNode what could connect galaxies...

Well MY theory is they blew up the star for 2 reasons:

Firstly it wiped out all life in the capella system for them (this is good!)

Secondly they can somehow use the nebula to harvest energy from it. Remember the mission with the shivan miners in the other supernova.

Ok we are learnt of another jump gate in the other nebula too......a jump gate and a nebula ....far from terran space...and now also a nebula and jumpgate both in terran space albeit in different adjoining systems. Shivans will probably stabilise the one in gamma drac (or something - they have advanaged subspace tech) and then using the energy from capella to probably jump further into terran space.......

come on theyve got to if we assume the story wouldve continued in fs3

Ooh... This situation sucks... InterPlay has the rights for the FreeSpace series and the Volition isn't anymore interplay company If they would continue FreeSpace series it wouldn't be Volition (If it would, it will have some special permission) what means that some other gamecompany will do it. And they wouldn't have the knowledge of all what Volition was going to do with the series... I hate gamecompanies... I hate SIERRA!

Red face

and what about freespace 1, how did the shivans enter into terran-vasudan space?
There is no nodes in Ikeya and I can't remember what the other twop systems were?

read the thread entitled shivans in the general discussion forum. It has far more information and theories about this than I think we're likely to go into here.

ah... damn

Well, thanks guys. I like cpt.white's explanation...

there is an alternate ending if I dont make it out?! DAMN! I'm NOT gonna do the campaign again to see it! so can you tell me what the file name for th ani. is and where it is?

in the meanwhile, till the mod is released, I've starting making my own continuation campaign missions... to explain what happened at capella as I see it... but I'll have to bull**** a lot as I go ... oh well, bull****ting is what I do best... or was that something else?

Actually you can play the last mission over again once you beat it, just dont restart the campaign =)

Another thing: The Shivan's were birthed out of the flux of subspace, says Bosch in cinema #1. The nebulae discovered on the other edge of the Knossos was "possibly a remanant of a super nova." To me it looks a lot like the Shivans really preform better in the nebulae, like stealthy and stuff. Perhaps it was a way to up the ante.

IMO, there's no point to dying a hero trying to save the ships, cause none of them stand any chance of getting away from the nova in time anyway.

Perhaps...but then so do literary critics and the like. FreeSpace 2 does have a story and does have a meaning and therefore it can be analyized like a novel can be...and since there is a gigantic mystery behind the ending, it only makes sense to try and figure it out. Unfortunately....you can't

Lets come up with a lame answer, just so that people who hanker for closure feel better.

***
The Shivans were all poised to attack the terran and vasudan colonies with their Juggernaut fleet. The combined forces had blown up their Lucifer, then their scouting Juggernaut, and the Shivans were a bit peeved about that.

Just as the Shivan forces entered the Capella system, they heard the dreadful call "Shivans, your lunch is ready!"

"Aw, mom," Shivans replied.

"Now now, stop attacking those inferior species, and come home to lunch THIS INSTANT!"

Shivans sighed, then headed home, not without destroying the Capella star first though - at least he could blow a fair few of those GTVA meanies up before he went home.
***
[/LAMEJOKE]
