No, thats a stupid feature that need not exploring.
If we wanted to do it to add to a mission drama...then maybe...but in general its just annoying.
Plus, FreeSpace 2 missions don't typically last longer than 10 minutes...maybe 15 at the most.

Fuel in FS2 works different than in other Space combat sims.
just like in X-Wing there is no fuel tank that might get depleted , the "fuel" is energy redirected to the engines . you can balance your own fighter the way you want : Speed at the cost of firing rate .
We will make the weapons to consume more energy so that your really have to play around with your energy settings in combat situations. So far FS2 was not set up very good. The star wars titles were the only ones that provided a challenging energy-allocation problem.
We will see what we can do .

Good point, firing off continous streams of pulses will deplete your nice ole energy reserves quite nicely.

I agree with IceFire on that one. Esp considering just how flippin fast the Starfury's fire. Its twice the speed of the fastest weapon in FS2. Thats going to suck down some power. I was watchin B5 last night, first epasoide, and the way they fired there however, was slower than snot.. I hope we don't have weapons like that in this,

Doesn't the Subach HL-7 fire as fast as a starfury? granted we need to make them more like balls of lights instead of bolts. I don't think it'd suck that much energy, they'd do less damage. At least that's what I'd assume.

Well, I think that the wearpon that is more similar to the Starfury Pulse Cannon is the Prometheus S(green bolts).
