editing TBL files?

how do I do so? I ask because it would make my questions a bit....more.....meaningful.

Get VPView or some other software which reads Freespace1/2 .VP files. Find the file you want and open ÃÂ_t with e.g. Notepad and you'll find instructions inside those files. They are quite simple to edit because of the reasonable syntax... When you're done put it into Freespace2\Data\Tables and the game will start using your version. It's easy.

I open them with the dos "edit"
You shouldnt open it with advanced programs, they may try to add a format to the file and this will **** it up.

Notepad isn't too advanced at all

I haven't had troubles with Wordpad either. But for gods sakes don't use anything else.

Formatting = bad in table files

EditPlus. I've used it for years, so I'm very used to it. And it saves like the regular Notepad
