Beyond Capella?

Do we know what is going on in the systems around Capella after it went S/N? I'm thinking especially Gamma Draconis and beyond, is there any GTVA there at all?
Also in the systems round Mirfak etc. I'm making a campaign, but don't want to run into too many GTVA patrols. If you see what I mean.

There's no travel through Capella, since it'll be a seething soup of million-degree gas for a while to come.

I don't want to travel THROUGH it, I just want to know what was left there. OK, maybe not Gamma D, but what about Epsilon Pegasi, Mirfak etc?

If I remember right, Capella had 3 jump nodes, one to Gamma Drac, one to Vega, and one to Epsilon Pegasi.

For more details, Icefire has posted a jumpnode map at the BWO site at http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/

I know what systems lie off Capella, but what was going on in them at the time of the big firework?

Gamma Draconis and the nebula was evacuated long before the Capella star was destroyed.

Any ships that did not get through in time would surely have been hunted and destroyed by the Shivans. All major fleet assets were evacuated so if there were any ships left, they would be inconsequential.

Vega and Epsilon Pegasi are the other two systems off the Capella system.

Both systems are major population and resource centers. Vega has many shipyards and seems to have been a GTVA staging area during the NTF war. Epsilon Pegasi was the scene of heavy fighting during the later part of the war with the NTF. The Colossus is responsible for turing the tide in that system but its presumable to guess that there was alot of devastation.

Ah, but if you go off what Icefire said in the speculation and nebula threads, it could be possible, albeit unlikely, that a ship could've remained hidden from the Shivans by simply not jumping to subspace. That'd make for an interesting campaign.

Thanks for the info. My campaign will be based around Epsilon Pegasi and beyond into Mirfak and Adhara or whatever it's called.

Interesting idea Dynamo... an errant captain who stayed behind and determined that if all sub-space emissions of any form (inter-system comms, jumps, etc.) were eliminated, that they could hide from the Shivans and reconnoiter, the region beyond the Knossos.

Plenty of inter-character conflict here with the stranded crew, zealous captain, and the command staff which is torn between the two.

Also, plenty of opportunities for interesting missions with setting up ambushes against Shivan transports, and using them as "jump ships" to hide your presence as you move from location to location...

all this stuff is really interesting, but didn't the jumpnodes to cappella get destroyed by the supernova?

Possibly. Jump nodes are apparently caused by or related to large amounts of gravity, and a supernova would likely severly disrupt the jump nodes. Whether they were completely collapsed or simply destabilized is totally unknown.

They would be dead already if they were in Capella, but if they were in Gamma Drac, they'd be fine.

But there are still shivans in the Gamma Drac system, and then they will eventually be found and distroyed

I think the Shivans do the hunting. They do not rely JUST on subspace detection, but it gives them a huge edge over the Terrans and Vasudans who have only limited subspace tracking.

Epsilon Pegasi and the systems around it (i.e. Adhara, Mirfak, Procyon) are still connected to the GTVA, through Polaris, Regulus, and Sirius; the former NTF systems. So their not all alone out there. Their just more remote than before.

And a ship out there alone, in the nebula wouldnt have any fighter support, if Command thought they could leave them behind. Unless one of those ships is the GVD Toeris...

If a campaign were to be made of that, and if that ship is to have any hope of escape, they would have to get through Gamma Drac, and through Ghenna, to Ribos, sometime after March 5, 2376, when the Ribos-Ghenna node stabilizes (in my campaign anyway).

First off MB Ghenna is A) classified level Omega, so you don't know it exists, get it? and B) Ghenna would be suicide

It is Shivan land ladies and gents, a red giant and one super-massive iron-nickel world with tons of the Shivs...

You want to go to Ghenna? Wait a month or two... the next big campaign project coming to FS2 will take you there...
