2 Questions on the FreeSpace 2 Intro...
I've just recently started to play FS2, but I have 2 questions regarding the intro movie...
1. Is it just my copy, or is the video quality of the movie...not as great as FS1's intro? I'm not saying that it's bad, but in comparison with FS1's intro, it doesn't look that great. FS1's Intro movie had much more detail and clarity. It looked pretty good considering it's an older game. But FS2's Intro movie isn't so...
2. Is that the GTI Hades that's crashed in that planet in the Deneb system? What's it doing there? The GTI Hades in Silent Threat appeared in the Beta Aquilae system. Or is it another Hades? Will it be explained later on in the story(no spoilers please! :P)

The Year is 2002. The name of the place: Pepsi Prison
1.) I agree that the video does seem a little blurrier than the crystal clearness of the FS1 video. Understand I AM NOT dissing FS2's intro by any means, just making an observation. I still think it looks great. FS2's intro captivated me from the get go. Alright, keep cool....
2.) Can't say whether or not it's another Hades or a story mishap or something that got sucked through a gaping plot hole or what. It is_not explained later in the game, although a community vet or V employee might be able to tell you.

do you have the option: Interlaced cutscenes on, cause if so, that really ****s up the quality, but even so, the quality of the intro isnt very good, but look at it like this...we are watching a recording of the battle of Deneb 32 years ago...surely the video is a little deteriorated...
As for the Hades, it sure as hell is, and they probably did that just to tie in Silent threat as actually happening, even though I though Silent threat blew Monstrous huge gigantic donkey nuts. The Hades was so god damn huge it had to have been under construction so long before the Great war, and then modified to carry shivan weapons and tech...It was on the same scale as the Colossus, and that beast took 10 years to build...and the Great war lasted less than a year? I think....dont quote me on that for gods sake i dont really know...

Unlike FS2's command briefings, FS1's offer exact dates so this could be checked. But I do believe the Great War lasted well under a year from the moment the Shivans hit the GTSC Einstein to the isolation of Earth.
Interesting point about the Hades. It is a pretty big ship, larger than an Orion I believe, so I imagine it would take some time to build. We don't know the extent of GTI's resources or personnel, so it's hard to guage just how much time, material, and manpower they could've siphoned into the Hades project.
The prospect of it having been built before the Great War and only fitted with Shivan weapons afterwords is very intriguing. If true, that would almost suggest GTI had some knowledge of what was to come.

That was hinted at in Silent Threat but not really elaborated. We at the Freespace Port intend to change all that... Read my interview on HLP to find out more about Silent Threat: Reborn.

on a side note...does anyone wonder why the GTVA didnt build a new Hades? Since it was so ungodly powerful, I think it would have had an even-money chance of taking on a Sathanas in a slugging match...I think it could have wiped the floor with a Colossus...and going way off topic..when is someone going to make a campaign where contact with earth is restored?

Just about every other campaign features contact with Earth - wait for BWO for one of the better ones (even if it is character based ). And the Hades wasn't all that powerful. By FS1 Standards, yes it was, but by FS2, I doubt a 3 km long ship with 2 SSLs could defeat a 6 km long ship with 4 BFReds.

Maybe they did. Does the tech description for the Hades in FS2 (you have to look in the ships.tbl) say something like 'GTVA have denied rumours of rebuilding the Hades' of something like that.

Yeah but if the colossus was a secret it could have been that people thought that was the second hades.

They probably just slapped that in here to give modders a reason to use it......IIRC the Ganymede in particular is never used ingame. It's in the Colossus cutscene, though.
