Money or credits
I've been thinking. Does FreeSpace world or GTVA use money or somekind of credits? Or is it money-free world?

Without some form of working nanotechnology I very much doubt we'll be able to get rid of money in only 300 years.
In both FS1 & 2 we only see things from the military standpoint and that means money is ignored somewhat but I'd bet it was still there in FS2 behind the scenes.

How would nanotechnology eliminate money? It's an interesting idea, care to elaborate?

Nanotech or replicator tech could eliminate money under the right circumstances.
The whole purpose of money is that you can exchange it for goods and services. The problem is that once nanotech became widespread most goods could become worthless. Why buy something costly when you can simply feed the raw elements into a machine and have it make it for you?
There would only be a few things that would retain any value in such a society. Peoples time would still have value, raw elements might retain some value if they were rare (diamond and other gemstones would become worthless but since gold, silver and platinum are elements they might still retain some value). Living space might also retain some value (Everyone can build a mansion using nanotech but only a few people might own enough land to actually build it on).
Time using a nanotech machine might become a form of currency perhaps (sort of like replicator rations on Star Trek) but if you can simply use one nanotech machine to build another one how long could that remain valuable?
I'm not saying that nanotech would automatically mean that money became obsolete but with so much that was once valuable becoming worthless it would be the best chance for everyone to simply make money a thing of the past.

The first question is a bit tricky... you see... what is really "credits"? yep... that's right... another currency thought by someone and that is used on a number of sci fi shows.
Go to the tech room and see the info on the Arcadia Instalation (I think...) and on the Vasudan Freighter Bes (or something like that).
Or... you can think of it like this:
there are freighters... that means trading and money must exist!
karajorma's ideia makes sense as to the need of raw materials and freighters to carry them and trade them.
Now I ask you why are there freighters on Star Trek? Replicatores use energy to form matter (according to their technobabble!!). Is power and the materials needed to power their machines used as currency? So why are mines used? And why are the Ferengi so interested in money then?
And why wasn't there ever a diamond platted ship?!?!?

now, I'm no trekkie, but couldn't there be some kind of limit on what can be replicated, and the ships "use up" energy to get themselves around?
just like those dilithium crystals from them old star trek games... I always ran out of them.

Star Trek confuses the hell out of me when you start thinking about stuff like that. If replicators are converting energy to matter why on Earth are they using antimatter in the first place? It's obvious that they much have total conversion of matter which is basically a safer version of coliding matter and antimatter.
As for the diamond plated ships diamond will catch fire at around 3000 degrees so it was probably determined to be far too flammable for use in hulls

This is going to sound really sad, but the reason they use matter/antimatter is that they never found a safer way to generate enough energy to break lightspeed. Only the immensely unstable M/A reaction could do it.

That doesn't make sense though. Total conversion of 2 kilos of matter or 1 kilo antimatter + 1 kilo matter gives exactly the same amount of energy.
The only explaination I can think of is that they aren't simply destroying antimatter by combining it with matter. Instead they are doing something else that give out even more energy.

Something to do with lithium perhaps?
Why not use singularities (black-holes) as an energy source?
Or nuclear fusion?
I wonder what did the borg use...

They burned extra limbs, and the like, and powered a steam generator...
