There is a transcript of the missing cutscenes in the storyline section of my FAQ. It should help the story make more sense

As for the ships looking less threatening, FS1 was in the same resolution

yeah i know that, but the giant ships in fs2 dont look nearly as good as they should.

In case anyone still is looking for the high res files, they are available from Mr.Fury http://koti.mbnet.fi/~fury/fs2_hotu/ . Besides high res textures he also has uploaded music, voices and patched exe-files. to Mr.Fury .
