but in campaign A you'll be flying human ships
in campaign B you'll be a Narn
in campaign C you'll be a Mimbari
in campaign D you'll be a Centauri..

we could just make batch files to change the hud for each campaign. The player would have to run the file themselves and download the other huds.. but obviously only if they wanted to.

And obviously this falls down if you want the hud to change mid campaign.

yeah , we could make different huds that can be changed when you quit FS2 for a second and run an installer or a simple batch.

However , we will see......
The first campaigns will be EA.

I think u might be better with just one hud, if there are more it would take longer to make and a lot of people couldn't be to change them (like me )

Is there a way to get FS2 to execute the batch file to change the HUD depending on the ship you select? I wonder if any of the boys at Volition know of a way to do that.

It'd be cool to have different HUDs for the different fighters, but if it can't be done, it can't be done The HUDs are a minor part of the overall package, but I think do add greatly to the atmosphere.

Unless you released the different campaigns as a series of mods, The EA mod, the Minbari mod, the Narn mod etc....

batch files wouldn't have any effect on fs2, it's like creating a program for windows but is being used in dos, like trying to open a webpage.
however there is a very small change a new tbl file could be make which says something like if ship = minbari used hud02.
And if i am wrong don't blast me for it, i haven't really messed round with tbl files, well apart from ships and weapons

I think another thing most people are missing here is the HUD isn't anything tangible. It's what shows up on the cockpit's glass. So technically we can change the cockpit per race, and say that the race modifies any stolen ships HUD configuration to match. So we're not changing the cockpit, the HUD. In this case we can even just offer different HUD's which players can choose from and not force them on anyone. So if you like FS2's original, keep it.

anyway what does a minbari/narn/centauri hud look like?
It'll change a few things like radar but what to? they wont be much different.

Guys...this should form the basis of logic for all of you out there before you ask a question.

Did you see it in FreeSpace 2?

If you were talking about beam weapons then the answer for this mod is: yes.

If you were talking about multiple HUD configurations...then the answer is: no.

Its not a table thing...its meerly a graphical change based on internal coding that we cannot change.

The only problem I have with Skullar's is that the area with the radar range display within it is too large.

I'd trim the radar range area so it is not as large, and only the size of the range text itself.
