Cynics abound. What about server side clients that help filter out cheaters?
With Tactical Ops, alot of servers run 3rd party software to stop the majority of cheaters.

Yea I would like to now why those dont work in RF. Do they need to be sanctioned/supported by the developer (V)?

Thanks a lot "V"
I don´t care much about the patch, but I´m more concerned of the lack of support for modders. I was (yes, was) in a team who tried to make a good mod for RF. I don´t know how many times I mailed "V" about modeling and animation. I got only one answer and that was my first mail about 1st person models. I got the answer that the player arms must be included with the weapon and animated with bones. Good answer! How was I supposed to get the arms? They should be the same as Parkers (at least, there are more characters) otherwise new weapon mods would look ridiciulous. Do you think I got any answer - no! So I took screenshots in different angles and tried to model Parker arms by myself and figured out what textures they should have. They got pretty good and very similar to the original (I compared them when the RF example files finally got released).
Next step were the material effects like selfillumination. That´s good especially for energy weapons or for leds. The assault rifle for example has a selfilluminated ammo counter. It didn´t work to increase the selfillumination level in max so I mailed "V". Did I get an answer - no!
I wanted a name list for all dummies that could be used by RF models like muzzle flash, shell eject, heat seaker etc. Do you think I got it - no! I was lucky that some guy figured out the muzzle flash dummy and later I saw the shell eject dummy in the RF example files but nothing else.
I made a character based on Masako´s skeleton so I could use the already done animations. The problem was that my model had to have the same size as Masako so all rotation joints got aligned with her. So I mailed "V" and asked for other skeletons or at least the naming conventions for them. Do you think I got a reply - no!
I don´t think my questions had to do with something secret or would be too difficult to answer. But the most frustrating was that I didn´t get replies at all, not even "Sorry, we will not answer you". It says in the readme files for the RF tools that "V" probably wont answer any mails but why the h*** write the address? Well, I don´t care anymore and our team is dissolved. It just felt good to write this down.

Stop blaming [V] for everything. They've taken a lot of sh!t from members lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they just gave up on all of us right now. No matter what they say, it just isn't good enough for you, whether or not they have any control over the situation.

And who should I blame if not "V"? I don´t think you have been in any situation where you needed help so it´s easy for you to say "don´t blame V". But as I said in my last post I don´t care anymore.

I don't know what world you live in, but if I buy a defective product, I tend to blame the manufacturer. And when they make false claims, then they tend to get blamed to.
we're blaming Volition/THQ because it is THEIR responsibility.

Its a moot point. I'd rather discuss more interesting things, than continually harass V.

Hey now, no V bashing, just RF bashing. And even that's getting a bit redundant.
What I'd like to see is a full Postmortem of RF over at GamaSutra. An honest one.

Everyone does know what a moot point is? Continuing in this business serves no logical reason and thus will get nowhere.

so, logically, do you plan on supporting your future games, with patches and code fixes, or just doing the same thing. And this isn't harassment, you choose to read this thread. you choose to reply or not.

Actually, I'm quite sure this is harrassment. I would've thought that saying approximately 600 times that this is not the reason I'm here you might have, oh, I dunno, eased off.
But you're right, I am choosing to read this thread. And by seeing this sort of smiles-one-second-jackass-the-next attitude _EVERY_ single time I even try to participate in the community (what is this, attempt 5? 6? over the last 3 or so years?) I sure do seem to enjoy sticking a fork in my eye. And you wonder _why_ you don't "see Volition people any more"? Take a look in the mirror.
Cripes.

Im sure we can get them to stop, the admins have already signalled for the topic to end in one thread.

No, its not a big deal. As long as I take my meds, there's no danger of a 3 state killing spree
