What constitutes a Dreadnaught rather than a Destroyer? What's the difference? Just its size? That doesn't strike me as very reasonable...

I could see a Dreadnaught prefix to classify a warship of the same dimentions and mission profile as a Destroyer, but with no fighter compliment; but just to make it a name for a bigger ship... Ships are always getting bigger, but the GTVA hasn't retired the Destroyer class yet -- everything from an Orion's dimentions all the way up to the Hades's has been considered a Destroyer. What makes the Bastion II different?

Since Psycho hasn't answered this, I think I will answer it for him.

Dreadnaught
-----------
The Bastion is longer than a regular destroyer, alot longer, true. But it focuses on raw power. It has two FOG beams 1/8 set back under the bow of the ship. FOG(Fingers Of God) are very powerfull, I don't currentlyknow the specs on them. Dreadnaught class (to give it some FS2 History) was bulit to combat the threat of Shivan Sathanases and the fear of rebelious colitions with Juggernaughts.

I would like to point out an example. After I knew about the Bastion I saw this in the game Star Trek Voyager Elite Force. There is a ship long, and with one large cannon on the front to destroy ships. It was called (hey look at this) The Dreadnaught.

I actually think the Gogatha ( think I spelt it right IceFire) should be a Dreadnaught class. iceFire what do you think about that?

Beat me 2 it AZONIC and I feel the same way.
The dreadnought class of ships are usually very large and can generally fend for its self. The term dreadnought: example, "Dread not the Bastion will be here soon" fear not we will be saved. So the Dreadnoughts are a Stand Alone Force designed to get to hot spot quickly. A mobile star base.

Ah. Now that makes sense. Dreadnaughts are ships designed to make use of your new FOG weapon, necessitating their enormous size. I get it.

"Dreadnaught" is a pretty good name for this class of ship, IMHO. As for the proper name of the Dreadnaught in the campaign, I'm going to throw in with those who don't like "Bastion 2." Since the purpose of the Dreadnaught class would be to prevent a recurrance of the Capella supernova, maybe something from that vein would be more appropriate.

Why not call it the GTDn Capella, in memory of six million GTVA citizens' lost home?

I'm amazed that no one mentioned this one yet:

The Bastion2 is big right?
So why not name her after biggest Battleship ever built.

GTDn Yamato

I don't know if you guys need a new class name but how does Nemesis class sound?

BTW that would make a cool ship name too GTDn Nemesis

EDIT: For those of you who don't know Nemesis is the Greek goddes of vengance.
So it would kinda fit after the whole "Shivans make Capella go nova" thing

Black Falcrum has a pretty good idea here, but if you need a more gloomy or evil-sounding name, the Vindicator or Redeemer have always been favorites of mine. If you insist on calling it bastion, Bastion-B sound better than Bastion 2. A bit less corny too. However, I don't really the feel like Bastion did such a great sacrifice. It was already obselete when they threw it in the node right ? I feel the Galatea in FS1 had a much more tragic death. How about the GTVDn Galatea-B ? Anyway, when referring to the ship in in-game messages (text or speech), the "B" or "2" in the ship's name does not have to be pronounced at all, but it should appear in it's designation.

I think that the GTVDN sounds good, but Bastion has been used before. You need something new and fresh...and that 'Icarus' class of destroyers sounds way too foreboding. So, here is my idea:

Mycenae-class dreadnought

Mycenae was an ancient city in Greece, almost as large and important as Athens.

GTVDN Aegeus

An ancient king, one of the greatest of ancient Greece

I disagree with BlackFulcrum; I think "Nemesis" sounds too overtly-dramatic, cheesy. It sounds like the namer went to too much trouble to make it sound way cool. It doesn't strike me as the type of name a military power would really give to a class of vessel. It's like all those Star Wars novels -- none of their titles mean a damn thing, they just have to include the phrase "dark," "evil," "shadow," or "twilight" in the title so it looks way cool (and therefore comes across sounding very cheesy).

I liked Zerberbuth's idea, the GTDn Vindicator. That name would be very appropriate, considering the reasons for designing this class of ship.

Incidentally, BlackFulcrum: wasn't the biggest battleship ever built the Bizmark? The Yamato was just the flagship of the Japanese fleet during WW2, wasn't it? Aside from a halfway decent 70's cartoon, the Yamato wasn't all that remarkable.

The Bismark was just a small battleship, much smaller then the later Japanese Yamato and American Iowa class battleships.

Although it is more know then the Yamato, the Bismark actually saw action and destroyed an other important ship, the flagship of the British fleet the HMS Hood.
Several days later the British too revenge for that and destroyed Bismark.

Yamato was the biggest battleship ever built but she never had history of destroying any important ships, or being in big important battles.
Her dimise wasn't one that you'd expect from a ship her status, she was sent on one way run towards Okinawa, she was to be beached there and her nine 18 inch guns used as field artirily against the invading US forces, if these would get to close, she would be set to explode (basicly the biggest kamikaze ever)
But this plan never worked, because when she was only on a quarter of the way towards Okinawa she was sunk by US planes.

Oh and Yamato is the most sacred name for Japan itself in Japanese, it's a very ancient name.

And this concludes our history lesson.

The Bastion is over 3 killometers long and carries a butt load of fighters and bombers with enough fire power to repel a complete Shivan strike force. this ship is capable of defending it self from any standard shivan attack force this ship was built as a stand alone force.
