By George, you've got it!!! (sorry for the pun, George... ) I can see it now.... a whole new Sol-based fleet (c'mon people, start those 3D design braincells!) of Terran-Shivan hybrid tech, created out of the fear that the Shivans will return in force... as well as a whole slew of new research done not only on the Lucifer but on all those frozen Shivan bodies floating around inside. Because of the availability of Shivan tech and biological matter upon which to conduct research, the technological development branch that was followed at Earth differs vastly from the developments made by the GTVA.
Put one and one together and the mysteries of the Shivans are finally unravelled!

Imagine it, black and red Apollos and Valkyeries with Shivan weaponry.

Actually ladies and gents, the Lucifer was completely annihilated if you look at the scene, the half that was in Sol shortly afterward exploded with a second detonation, all that was left were some minute super-heated hull fragments.

Now the GTA in Sol could have gained new metallurgy from these fragments, but little more.

The true issue in Sol is that the first few decades would be utter hell, the system was stripped of many resources for the V-T war, and without off-world support it would require massive reorganization to feed everyone, the depression at the time would collapse Earth on itself if it didn't have strong leadership. (and no our retarded friend... George W. Bush is not strong leadership kids...)

We would most likely see in Sol Mars' having strong importance for agriculture (especially if Terraformed) as well as the fleets being used to defend the outer worlds, and not Earth itself.

The true conflict however is not their not trusting the GTVA, the conflict will come from the fact that Earth has been placed from safety back into the way of the Shivans...

A) First of all, if you take a real look at the ending FS1 movie you'll see that the Lucifer made it out of the jump node from the "armpits" up. After the node closed, the "head & shoulders" of the Lucifer blew up and apart. What was left was, as you said, "minute super-heated hull fragments" AND the tip (or top) of the head...where the mega-beam came from. I'd say that that remaining fragment is about 1x-2x the size of an Argo. Therefore, it is very conceivable that Sol-bound GTA and Vasudan forces developed beam weapons, at the least.

Ummm... what exactly would the fleets remaining in Sol defend the outer worlds against? Yes, for a couple of years they might have patrolled around the outskirts of the system, but eventually they would have realized that there was NO way to get in-system via subspace. They would have then repositioned the fleet to protect the busier inner planets from pirates and whatnot.

But who's counting...?

what if the ancients expanded their territory to sol. That would mean their is probably another Knossos there leading? This Knnossos might lead to GTVA space. It might mean that Earth has been using stealth technoilogy to spy on us, and make sure their technology is better than the GTVA

Don't you think that if there was a knossos in Sol, the Shivans could have used it to destroy the planet?

Like I said, I think we'll return to Sol to find a dead system.
Oh sure the GTA would have put up a small resistance, but they didn't have the man/fire power to stop the Shivans...

I'm Telling you people, Sol is dead, deader than Lucille Ball...

Um sol system, the system with the heaviest traffic of any system pre end of fs1 the system where everything is scouted i am sure they would have noticed a knossos portal.

Or maybe they found a big portal underneath the desert and activated it and went to a strange world where they find out that the pyramids were built by aliens.

I doubt that there could be a Knossos hiding in Sol.

The Erikson did long range scans. Probably did not pick up the portal because it was not emmiting any power signature.

If the Shivans did open a portal in Sol, they would know quickly and be able to deal with it.

Who would know, pilot? Theres noone there but stranded Terrans, a few Vasudans, and the debris chunk of the Lucifer that didn't explode, or so you think, hurtling towards sol.

As you can tell, I'm hoping Sol is destroyed. I think it's kinda unfair for the Vasudans to lose everything, and us to get off "scott-clean" as the expression goes...

I think...

a. sol is an inhabbited system with traffic,

the original knossos was in an empty system with NO traffic or planets for that matter.

b. when a knossos is turned on im assuming it takes a couple of hours/days/weeks for it to stabalise the jump node. if the sol guys have become xenophobic nutters they will have learnt from the lucifer encounter and send a ship into blow the node up

Here's how that works, as far as I know;

Think of the nebulae as an aquarium, and the Shivans as fish. If something entered the tank, either through the top of it, or through a subspace portal, it would create a compression wave which the Shivans would feel, and thus they'd know that something was there. Make sense?

boct1584 - thats exactly what I was thinking of, just didn't know howto describe it.

Also could be like droping a rock in a pond. The waves circle outwards. The Shivans have a sensitivity to subspace and thus they know what to look for.

The Vasudans did loose their homeworld but the Terrans lost theirs for 40 years which is almost as bad.
