Back to the original topic, a tactic the could of used was firind a nuke through a jump-point while the ship that fired stays in hyperspace.

Interception and neutralization.....a Minbari targeting system has plenty of time to hit a warhead....especially if its transitioning between hyper and normal space.

It doesnt take too much tech to do that. Such abilities to shoot down an incoming missile has alredy being achieved with todays tech.
The israelis have a Laser AAA wich can even shoot down katyucha balistic missiles in mid air. The americans have alredy tested laser defenses in space for yers now. This combined with the abilitie to detect missiles at launch can enable in the near future to shoot it down righ as they prepare to reach the outer atmosphere.
This ability to detect lauch from satelites has existed since the 70's (probably even sooner). Because any missile will radiate a huge energy burst as they detonate the boosters and accelerate.
In space you dont need to have a rocket engine swiched on all the time just for initial acceleration and manuevering (wich is what the US is trying to do right now) whenever the rocket booster is on the missiles becomes "A shining beacon in space"
Such times are extremely favourable to loock on and blast it away with a laser.
The US has some experience in doing this but it will take a few years before they master guided-missile-in-space tech and to build all those laser satelites and planes (747's !!!).
Wich isnt a bad idea (protects us in the Us and europe from nukes) except that will also enable them to do other things such as death from above to anyone who becomes annoying to the US, I mean I wont miss Saddam Ussein much, but thats too much a tremendous power instrument to be ignored by some ambitious politicians, who can garautee it wount be used potentialy to egrivious harm?? not to mention that without international consent it will cause an arms race wich I believe has alredy started.

Ahh yes...except that without World War 2, we may not yet have had the technology right now to even go to the moon. Nevermind talk on this forum.

The Internet was came about because of the Cold War, the Cold War foced the Americans and the Soviets to compete for technological supremacy and thus going to the moon. Going back further, European rulers wanted to better control and communicate with their army's and so they pushed forth with science which lead to the creation of the telegraph.

The unfortunate truth is that we must walk a fine balance between the Vorlon philosophy of order and the Shadow philosophy of chaos.

Icefire is wright, contrary to what Ashrak said WAR was the driving force behind so much tech progress, even our beloved PC's are descendents of that IBM computer the Nazis got... (they didnt had time to put it to good use though)
had the cold war continued untill now We've probably have walked on mars already. Without it we probably never set foot on the moon yet also.

It will continue to be so, but tendence is that agressive capitalism (no I'm not comunist nor pro-USSR) has started to be a major technological thrust and will grow exponentialy in the future. We will see some crazy people trying to make space turism in the next few decades, and although I would preffer the bahamas better myself (with plenty of bikini babes )I say that will contribute to the space programs more than the military in the future.
I forsee that globalization will even catalize this, as big mega-companies will engulf whole coutries and compete with each other for the space market (among other things) in the search of a new thing to monopolize it and get an edge.

Hrrmm...I guess if your talking about stuff like the Engima machine, then I suppose your right.

IBM came more from the work that the US Military did after World War 2 war when they wanted to be able to calculate ballistics of battleship warheads. Which gave way to the first computer, the first computer game, and so on.

What I find most amusing is that the original Gameboy from Nintendo had more processing power than the Apollo rockets did. The Palm's and Cell Phones that we carry around now are way in advance of that.....really...thats the coolest part about technological advancement

Yea, I don't know if it was an IBM, but the Nazis did have some very sophisticated punch card computers. They used them to keep track of data on their victims. Meticulous record keepers. I'll bet they were kicking themslves for that on the way to the gallows at Nuremberg.
