What about a beam cannon which is different from the traditional freespace 2 one, they could just fire without the beam moving and the beam could just last a second but with a high fire rate and many of them

Possibly. But it's not going to be one of the things in BWO, seeing as they'd be pointless. Meson cannon > capshields.
