If you think this forum is hostile, perhaps you might want to shoulder some responsibility, because it's one of the nicest I've been to, and I frequent many, from 200 users to 200000.

The trick is, we don't mind if you ask questions. We DO mind if you ask the same question that's been answered in the FAQ which is where someone ought to go FIRST. We also don't like 'topic spam' where you ask 90 little questions in 90 individual topics when it'd make much more sense as well as make that thread useful for other people who'd be searching for those same answers...

The convenience store example is invalid; if that convenience store had a list of questions and answers as well as a map with directions outside on its window, then you're getting closer. Internet != world.

And trust me, this is not hostile. You're being too fragile, man. Just chillllllllllllllllllll ooooooooooooooooooout.

well, i'll point this out the point of having a FAQ (a.k.a. "Frequently Asked Questions") is to answer questions that are frequently asked . As such, if one has a question that he knows not the answer to, would it not make sense to check if others have asked the same and if still others had answered it already?

Point #2, i think everyone has gone to a convenience store for directions, but also, must people will check the Mapsco or other maps first.

Point #3, no slandering C&C, Tiberian Sun is still the best strategy game around and so it will stay in my opinion (two words: Disruptor rush)

Point #4, if you posted a new thread everytime you had a question, especially when they're all interelated, this place would be overrun with threads with no more than 5 or 10 replies each, and that would be bad since all the other stuff we discuss here (art, project progress, news, jokes, even the weather) would get pushed off the forum. That would make ppl really unhappy and the forum would die off quickly, leaving the TBP staff bored and lonely and soon they'd start disappearing and then TBP will eventually become a ghost town and then...well, ya. so dont do that, please.

Point #1- I agree with
Point #2- Is totally wrong. No one goes to the map section first. they always ask the cashier first. Either that or you're very very shy.
Point #3- personal opinion
Point #4- If you followed the conversations regarding this issue you would see that non related threads is exactly what I have been talking about. Jeez I thought this thread would have been dead by now.

point 3, being a tib sun master, back in the day when everyone got along and there was a good community there....i would have to disagree....this is how you can judge your skill level on playing tiberian sun

first of all gdi are so much better...hands down

then you discover banshee....wheeeeeee nod rule!

then you discover bomber + disrupter rush....wheeeee and that firestorm wall will stop them pesky bansheee....this is the stage most ppl stay at

then if your really good you find that you can always stopa gdi rus with nod, hard but very possible

2 equally skilled tib sun firestorm players will follow this game path

gdi rush, do some damage (1 refinery destroyed if lucky)
nod defend 1 or 2 rush attacks....gdi keep trying to rush but it simply gets harder and harder and more expense as nod base grows becomes cloaked....more sams ...more tick tanks....now nod rush with banshee + maybe flame tanks, or some other means (btw nod can possible harpy rush near the begining too) at this stage gdi will have a firestorm, now it mean just have charged but there will ikely one be 1 generator maybe half the base convered with wall...maybe second generator being built...normally nod can take it down and then gdi man starts to panic.....slowly the banshees strikes take there toll and the nod player wins game over.... im somewhere between stages 3/4 cant decide whos best...for me...but overall nod is better

Tiberian sun was okay, but was rather a slam on the other C&C games......

And at that, nothing compared to the utter coolnes that is Starcraft. Behold the fury of the Archon Swarm! If that's not your cup o tea, then a Carrier rush will suit you just fine.

You may think from above that the Protoss are my fav race. Only halfway true. I don't have a favorite, i like them all equally, and can appreciate their separate tactics. My fondness with the Protoss comes from the sole fact that Zeratul is the coolest char in the game.

I in no way slamed any C&C game. I was a fan of C&C when the first game came out. I was a fan of Westwood when I played Dune 2 (called the very first RTS game).

My comment, for those who misread it, was aimed at the forum communities that I have been apart of or lurked on for C&C. It didn't matter if it was a website or Westwoods official boards. Maybe I missed the good ones and im not discounting that they don't exist, but I'm saying that for a relatively large forum community, the ones around here are EXTREMELY TOLERANT.

This is an opinion and a comparison that I made personally, so I don't have to be right, but it was one that I made in an attempt to show you guys how good and lucky you are here.

I am also having FS2 related problems

well, I upgraded my computer, and my problem is this:

the onboard SiS sound chip works fine in windows, but it appears to crash Freespace - I can only make Freespace work by disabling it. This solution works fine though it means I have no sound.

Do I have to buy a new sound card (my Awe64 won't fit into my PCI only new motherboard)?

Has anyone else heard of FS2 having problems with on board sound chips?

I've heard of onboard sound sucking.

A PCI SBlive Value is like $38 and if you have a SiS chipset, you won't have to worry about the potential SBLive/Via problems. If you want to avoid Creative Labs, the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz is probably your best bet.

Intergrated sound and video sucks in-general. I hear nForce from nVidia isn't bad, but I'd prefer the boards to be there instead.

SBLive is an excellent bargain for a great card. Audigy is better, but its also new and more expensive.

Actually NForce's integrated audio is better than SB Live. The most important factor is that it uses less CPU power.

Edit: And NForce is for MicroATX cases and laptops, well laptop versions are not out yet...

I said isn't that bad because its still integrated....if something better comes along or whatever, then you've still got an onboard system that could case problems.

Again, I'd rather not have an integrated sound and video.

And still... That's not an option for MicroATX cases and laptops!

Edit: Well ok... there's even as much as two PCI slots in MicroATX cases...

I didn't think it'd be great, I just don't really care how good the sound is... so long as it works

wish I could plug my old card back in.. it worked fine. damn PCI ports.
