IceFire: Poor you. Lucky I'm not like that or I'll still be stuck on Descent *GASP!* when Summoner/Red Faction come out...

I don't think any amount of MODS or missions will save freespace. The thing that will save the Freespace saga is a total reworking of the gaming engine like ships show damage. Seeing the same ships and same background will eventually get boring. Mods and missions will slow it and multiplayer helps a lot too. But the community will die out eventually. If someone smart enough could extract the source code then someone even smarter could make it so ships will show damage. It is a stretch and it's impractical that anyone would do that. This is my 2 cents.

Razzle: I think you misunderstood me. I think that if there is no FS3, then it's our choice to keep the community alive. I don't think the community will die even if there is no FS3.
Everyone: I really don't understand why everyone thinks that if there is no FS3 it signals that they must leave the community. Why exactly does it? Would someone please explain it? We have a great game here (two actually) and you're all going to just abanden it if there is no FS3, toss it out of your minds like it was nothing? Shame, shame on you all then.
Staying and battling it out doesn't gurantee an FS3, but leaving definately gurantess no FS3.

Heh , Everyone can totally chill on this one . FS Zone is going to take part into the Star Wars thing he's makeing. Also , we're going to put all of our designers into that FS3 campaign. If there's no FS3 we'll make our own FS3! Thats the kinda thing Voltion needs to hear! and its true .
In my opinon ...FS will never die out. They'll always be around 2k people playing it AT LEAST. Take Starcraft for example. its been 4 years now (I think) and its still running strong!. I personally like FS better. Heh , if anything ever starts to die out I'm sure you can count on FSW , if not them then FS Zone to revive it. 'Nuff Said.

You know why anything done with Star Wars will NOT save Freespace? (sorry, nothing against the idea itself, it just has to be said)
Copyright Infringement.
Plain and simple. If there is going to be a fan made add-on along the lines of Counterstrike, it MUST be in a totally new setting. Only in doing so can legal problems be kept to a minimum.
</seriousness>
Plus, SW doesn't have beams.....I'm trying to convince Slank to let me have Nebulon-Bs with beam cannons.......

I don´t think Lucas Arts will be too harsh. There are so many fan-made projects dealing with Star Wars. All these projects advertise Star Wars in a way (= good for LucasArts). There are some other similar mods (SW Homeworld mod)..

If you make an campaign, feel free. Make them experimental ships :P
I won´t give them beams by default...

Only 2 ships get beams. death stars and dark sabers.
Note: the Dark saber was a hutt made mini deathstar.

At least the FS engine is perfectly suited to handling GINORMOUS ships

The Campaign CAN save FS (if it was dieing). Its like..a gameing system. Lets use PSX (even though this never happend to it). When PSX comes out , it'll be extremly populer because they're makeing new games everyday and when the game gets old , go buy a new one. Eventually they stopped makeing games for it and the origional games got old. If they had kept makeing PSX games it'd still be alive. Same thing for FS. Keep makeing new campaigns and it'll keep liveing

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Disaster & Jennings, FS will keep going for quite a while yet and will only die with lack of interest. There are new people coming onto the VBB everyday & I've just introduced one of my friends to FS2! I myself have only got into MODs in the past couple of months, but have picked it up quickly and have a fully fledged campaign in the works..
FS2 will be around for a while...Long live FreeSpace!

Thank you for agreeing!
Everysingle person on the FS Zone will create a new campaign. I'll have hitman and griffon teach us all to make campaigns and teach anyone who wants to learn how to! The 2 guys will also write a textfile on how to make them for like beginners (rather then the help file).
Whatca got to say to that? (I want opinons)
