dumb question, but is this supposed to be a recon plane. It has a great deal of similarity to that of WWII pacific theatre water landing recon planes.

Actually, the Valkyrie or something like it was seen in season 2 "GROPOS" (sp?), when they had all of those marines on the station. Those ships were seen in the footage of the attack on Matok (sp?).
Later!

Non canon? Pah. If only you knew how much effort I put into making that ship look accurate. I had to call in help from Tomcat and Shadow Puppet in the end to make it look how it should. It's a personal favourite ship of mine. I'll probably put it in the patch but being a ground attack gunship it's of limited use.

Combined with the Mars-Athmosphere model there could be a nice "escort troops to the planet"-mission after the patch.

Must look at gropos again as I'm pretty sure you see them come through the jumpgate with the nova and support ships.

It's... a B5 forum, and people don't remember?
Watch GROPOS again. Second season, 10th episode. A Nova escorting troop transports arrives in the beginning, and those ships are also seen at the end, attacking the fortress of Matok at Akdor. Did you think they'd just cram 25 000 troops on a single Nova and land them with it's atmospheric shuttle(s), also leaving them without any air support?
Edit: Blah, meant second, still wrote third.

Youre right. They come through the jumpgate with the Nova.

That's news to me. I thought those ships that came through with the Nova were a different kind of vessel. Bigger and more like a transport but roughly similar looking. I didn't know they were exactly the same Valks we see attacking Matok. If it's verified as canon that these things can be used in space, that's good news then. Those big double cannons under the nose have to be useful to someone.

They do feel too small to carry around (some might, I suppose, be allocated on the Nova... but not much) 5000 troops each and be fit to fight in a close air support role as well. On the other hand, if there were two ship types, where are they transported? It's an awful lot of stuff to haul. I didn't find answers (yet, at least) to this from JMS in the rec.arts.sf.tv.babylon5.moderated newsgroup... maybe later.

Dropship is fantastic! SO is Bluestar.
This is one of the BEST news TBP has had in a LONG time!

I just saw GROPOS again and I'm pretty sure that, the Valkyries did not jump in with the nova! The ships that jumped in were some kind of transports but not the Valkyries!

They look similar but the ones that jump in with the Nova are much bigger and thicker in the main body than the Valks that do the ground attacks.
I wonder if those are all designed as atmospheric drop ships (the Kestrel shuttle probably can't do everything).

They got guns?
In GROPOS they only fire with Missiles.
They remember me a little bit of Orcas from C&C
