The books are certainly worth it - in addition to clearing up all of the unresolved questions about the Centauri, the Drakh and Londo and Vir, they actually incorporate the scenes in 'In the Beginning' and 'War Without End' that are set in the future on Centauri Prime and expand and elaborate upon them. The books are as canon as you can get too as the plot is penned by JMS although the books themselves are (well) written by Peter David.
