First of all I'd like to say that I'm a long time fan of TBP and I truly appreciate the work that the team has put to this project. I'm certain that there are many fans like me that don't post to the forums but patiently wait in silence for the next release. The Project has enormous potential and I among others would hate to see it die away.

The biggest problem IMO isn't the lack of missions, but the poor availibility of FS2. I've got a friend who is a great fan of B5. I told him about TBP and he immediately wanted to try it. Only problem was, he couldn't get a copy of FS2 anywhere (those who have it don't want to give it away).

It would be very important to get the TBP work without FS2 and then widely advertise it around the net. And when the fan-made campaigns start to pop-up after a few months, put links to them in the main site. Not everyone visit the forums regulary, and many people surely don't know about Tales of EAS Janus for R1.

Anyway, keep the project alive and know that you still have many loyal fans who fully support your effort to bring us a great B5 game.

I read a lot about the buggy release and don't really understand why that should be so bad.
Look at it as a beta-test. The TBP team would need far to much time to find all bugs and errors on their own. If you want a bugfree version wait for the patch before you play it.
As for me, I don't mind getting a version with some bugs, as long as they get fixed sometime.
It isn't like a game we buy in the store. There I pay the money and want to get a finished product.
Complaining about R2's bugs would be like you attend a beta test of e.g. StarWars galaxies and complain aoubt the bugs there instead of telling the makers about them so they can fix it, or even give some suggestions.

You already can make it work without FS2...

Someone posted it here in the forums...

TBP Base or something like that.

Release 2 Information - Check here before posting a question. By Mr. Fury, would be something where to find link to TBP Base, I think?

Anyway Tale of EAS Janus has a R2 compatiably pack, but it isn't perfect, you can play with it thats for sure and so far there hasn't been reports of it not working correctly, except on Nova-X mission, which in the end I have to include weapon tables.

I know about TBP base, but my point was it should be right there on the homepage, not hidden somewhere in forums. People come to the page, read that TBP requires FS2, and leave. And as I understand, the current TBP Base version has few bugs in it.

What the main page needs is a copy of this button that was posted on HLP a while back

With a suitable link to the HotU page and info on how to use TBP with the download it should solve the problem of people leaving.

That and similar button pointing to TBP-Base for those who don't care about FS2 and only want to fly a starfury.

Oh yeah...another point I'd like to refute. The sounds included that weren't supposed to be included were actually supposed to be included. I wanted them to be out now so that fixes we were making later would be implemented. There is a total of maybe 5 sounds that aren't used...and there are a couple of fixes due in the patch.

I'd like to point out that anyone who has plans to download the copy from Home of the Underdogs, there is a better alternative. I once had a ten mission (including the training missions) demonstrator CD for FS2 come with my new flight stick. I liked it so much that I bought the FS1&ST pack and continued looking for FS2. Like most of you, I couldn't find it. A friend of mine pointed me the the Underdogs page, but I had some trouble downloading from them. I then went on to [edited] (if I can mention that here) and found it there. The size was comparable to the Underdogs copy, so I grabbed it. It worked and I enjoyed the game. I then tried to download the Underdogs copy again and succeeded, but I found that their copy didn't have the in-mission vocals. I then re-downloaded the copy from [edited] and got the vocals back. This still puzzles me, that despite the fact that the size of the Underdogs copy was larger than the one I got from [edited], it seemed to contain less in terms of content.

Later!

the buggieness was my fault - because i pushed ahead the release so that it could be released while i was still at school on my 10mbit connection unstead of at home on a 56kbit connection. It was a regretable situation but it's easier to patch now and patches can easily be handled by a 56sucK

Excellent Does that mean the problem with the Olympus corvette has finally been fixed? If not how do you prevent the game crashing whenever one of them appears?

What you've got there is Freespace : Colossus an OEM version of FS2. I mention it in my FAQ cause it's a very simple way of getting hold of lots of the files missing from the HotU version.

As for the size difference the HotU version also has 3 cutscenes included which Colossus doens't have.
TBP-base is probably your best option if you're only interested in B5 but if you want to play FS2 as well then a mixture of Colossus and the HotU version is your best bet.

If anyone is interested in knowing what the [Edited] service was, it is a certain file swapping service whose name alternates between lower case and capitol letters. I think I don't need to be any more specific than that. If I'm still exceeding the limits of what can be mentioned here, feel free to delete this post.

Later!

Again, I fully respect what he is going through, but Blacksheep, as the song goes "...you 're in the Army now".

a) I am in the german army

You're just getting pissed, when you say "don't forget it" around 32 times. BTW, that mission was planned as a hidden bonus. Once you completed these longer gauntlet mission of Slasher a text was meant to appear, that should make you search for the mission file.

Wowie...that post made a bigger impact, than I exspected. Again, that was my post, my thoughts. And there are some things to be discussed:

a) I am still a member of the team, regardless what you may think
b) I hate to release unfinished work...that is why I did not welcome a release 2 yet. After proper testing it would have been perfectly fine...but a phase called "beta" was obviously skipped. And yes, that makes me angry!
...well...how long was that bug thread again...? Doesn't that give you a slight idea, that I am not totally wrong here?

c) Kazan might have pushed the whole release forward...but he didn't get ANY resistance, so he is not to be blamed alone.

D) If I have pi$$ed anyone here, I am probably sorry. But I say, what I think, when I am pissed...

Black Sheep, I know it must be annoying to release early. I tend to like to only show things when they're finished too.
I wouldn't worry too much about the release being in the beta stage as most of us fans (at least the real core of the fans who come here every day) realise that in essence what we have here is an open beta vesion.

When ever I play an FS2 mod that is full of bugs I tend to get very annoyed with the FREDders for not doing more beta testing. With TBP I never got that way. I knew that what I was playing was rushed out so I expected bugs.

Don't worry Black Sheep. Your reputation for FREDding hasn't been trashed by this buggy release (at least in my eyes ). Now if I find lots of bugs once the mission has been patched, that's a different matter

Answering the questions regarding moddable spacesims, you've got I-WAR 2 EOC. If you think FRED2 is hard, take a look at POG, a C-like language. Quite powerful to script full scenarios, though.

There are a couple big modding teams, one for the i-war universe in need for modellers, and other (Buda5) for Babylon 5 in need of POGgers, I believe.

And regarding TBP dying: don't forget all the cool things that FS_Open will bring in due time.

Sorry if I gave you the wrong impression... what I meant was basicly that you guys did a great mod and that nobody should complain as they are not the ones making the mod...

I never said its crap... it was just to give the feeling of a hard complain.

Well, we got warned that the release date of R2 was rushed out... Just like in someone's previous post, I consider that release an open beta... I know there will be a lot of good things to look forward too... Also, with the SCP implementation, they'll be other stuff that might be rushed out, because TBP fans are always anxious to see a new release... and every time, fans should expect a few bugs... the human isn't perfect, so is his creation.

Also, I do understand you point BlackSheep... Publishers rushes developpers, fans rushes developpers and the developpers rush themselves as well... so, what can you do about it??? it is like this, even if you are minizing the bugs, you are always rushed by a deadline (either establish by the pub/dev teams or yourself)... Except GT interactive and 3DRealms which are still working on Duke Nukem Forever... what it has been almost 6 yrs IIRC that they are working on it (changed engine a couple of time during that time...) But hey, we still wait for it... some of us at least and trust me, there'll be bugs in it...
