With a 56k it doesn't matter. Understand this: the idea behind multiple connections for downloading a single file is to get around a limit set by the server. It's not a good idea to open up too many connections anyway - some consider it harassing and block those people for a while... When dealing with fat pipes, that give and receive with all their might, it's also completely unnecessary to use more than 1 connection. But if the server really does artificially limit the speed per connection, they can be used. Just know what you're doing and use discretion.

This was a warning, you can discuss where it can be bought from. But use email or PM for "other means".

Abandonware is a computer version of squatters rights. Basically the people who practice it hold that if a company hasn't re-released a game recently and it isn't available to buy it's abandonware and can be put up for download.

Usually this works cause by the time a game becomes regarded as abandonware the company involved doesn't care much for the game.

Abandonware as you may have guessed is illegal because at no point has the company ever said that it's given up the copywrite for the game.

Aaah. I understand now...Thanks.

YEY! I won the auction; it went for £9.00 yey! There's another man on eBay selling Freespace 2 with the Babylon 5 mod on CD for £49.99 (Buy it Now) and I e-mailed him and asked if he'd do me a copy of the mod and he said he would do that for me! That'll save me countless hours of downloading...I want Broadband but it's not available here yet...not that I could afford it anyway lol.

Well that guy obviously interpreted both the law and ebay's codes of conduct rather creatively.

Are you not supposed to do that? From the way he wrote it he said that the mod was a bonus rather than it being actually within price.

Also, he didn't charge me for the mod; only the price of the CD and for postage...

well.. considering he's selling the budget version of the game at around £10 more than the full price version was, and put "babylon 5" in the item title he obviously thought our work would help him make more money.

But..

Aside from a bit of a misleading title, it does actually seem that people are allowed to sell CDRs of things that they've downloaded, so long as it's in the public domain. The only trouble I could see for him is the same copyright trouble we could get into.
