I still own my 100mb Hard disk from 12 years ago...
BTW, does 700 dollars US sound good for a Athlon 2GHz, 256 RAM (I have more ram to put in it from an older system), 17 in Monitor, DVD drive, CD-Rw drive, speakers mouse keyboard, all from HP.....

well 2 things
1. what video card and motherboard
2. athlon 2000+ is not 2 ghz. I am sorry if it is a real 2 ghz amd processor. but be careful about what you buy.
also go to pricewatch.com (best prices around), and go to tomshardware.com for reviews and mpegs of athlons frying from over heating .

Athlons do have a bit of a poor reputation in that regard, but Amd do appear to be a lot better with this now. The "2000+" type thing is simply a gimmick, but considering how poor a measure of system speed hz is, it's usually best to look at benchmarks anyway.

well, I think the PCI slot is the reason for the slowness - all the extra niceties that the 9700 has will clog the PCI slot even more.
Having AGP 8x would make a nice big difference. I know it's a bit late, but replacing your motherboard might have been a good priority.

I intend in swapping out my VideoCard I have now (Radeon All in one Wonder)
And Yes AMD does state a number, like Athlon 2000+, even if their computer runs at a lower Hz... the reason for this, as someone was eluding to earlier, is that performance wise it is comparable to a Pentium 4 2GHz.
I'll check out price watch.com... just don't want to build a system from scratch... I currently have an Athlon first Generation AGP X1 550Mhz 20 gig HD.... so that 2GHz, 50 Gigs and a AGP slot of 4X would be nice since I have lots of stuff(like my video card which functions 4X and my 2 extra sticks of 256 Ram(512)) that would work better on a newer system..

Don't buy a brand name PC. Try and getting a barebones and building it from there. with the memory and motherboard in, it is easier. you can also find some of the best prices on OEM hardware on their. OEMs does not have tech support. also you can get a copy of XP pro for 160 i think. But anyway. Try and build your own system. It will give you a feeling of accomplishment. Also if you are a student you can get a copy of office XP standard for about $100.00
