Yeah, that kind of thing can be done with the models to an extent. I don't think we can have dynamic debris fly off, but if you shoot at a subsystem's subobject and destroy the subsystem that's attributed to it the subobject's geo is "modified". I think that's the way it works anyways. Shoot the yellow turrets on a GTD Orion and they'll turn to a sort of slagged state.
