Can I use the "fs2_open" to play without the CDs, and even more importantly, in multiplayer? It would be wonderful...

You can play multiplayer using FS_open but not via PXO (the code was ripped out of the source code)

I'd just like to say "durr, no?"

Use an image creator program and Daemon tools; just copying the files doesn't always work, and it's unprofessional!

Have pride in your work here!

As for making an image, no, you can't. Part of the CD image isn't just what the files are, it's where and how they're stored (i.e. towards the middle of the disc? Center of the disc? Outside edge? Etc.) Were you to create one, it'd be awfully inaccurate, and probably worse off than not.

If possible, how about you get your discs back from your uncle, make proper CD images (I reccomend CloneCD, but that's because it's awesome. It's also not free, which means another program such as CDRDAO might be your cup of tea. Nero can create images as well, but I'm not a fan of the .NRG format, I much prefer CCD or bin/cue (bin/toc for fancypants users )

I might be completely off with this, but the evaluation period for my install of clonecd has expired, so I can't burn any cd's through it. however I seem to be able to make images of the CD's I want to back up without any problem at all, and by checking "make cue file" somewhere on there, it makes the file readable by nero... however, I run my games off the hard drive with the use of daemon tools. faster that way...

The above won't work. I can guarantee it... depending on your cd-burner you may or not be able to burn copies of protected CDs [w/ or w/o ISOs]... for more information on "BACKING UP" protected cd roms, check out

gamecopyworld.com

you can also find a no-cd crack too.
