But then, you wouldn't have the cutscenes anyway, so it all works out.

Well the HotU download does have the last 3 cutscenes (and the ending is rather sudden without them)

HOTU Freespace problems & ebay

I've been looking long and hard for Freespace 2 ever since I downloaded the HOTU version last week- it wowed me, but more than anything else it made realize just how incomplete the CD-rip was- the lack of voices and the jagged resolution made me long for the demo version.

I poked around about trying to buy a copy on e-bay but availibility there is poor and the copy that I tried to bid on (up to $20) got snapped up by some guy that put up $200 (apparently collecting, the same guy made the $300 bid mentioned in the above post), and I don't have the means to spend that much on computer stuff.

The point is this: the HOTU Freespace 2 files are not worth downloading if you really want to play this game. The official demo is better... Can someone e-mail me the link to that aforementioned site where I might find a complete version of FS2?

If you still have the adress, you can send it to me at
popkon_thepotatoman@yahoo.com

Welcome to the community. Although the version of FS2 on HotU has been cut to ribbons it is still counted as a full version as far as modding in concerned AFAIK. So although you can`t play FS2's main campaign on it properly you can install and play The Babylon Project or any other user made campaign.
I mention TBP because as it is a total conversion the missing voices from FS2 have been replaced anyway.
That in and by itself makes it a worthy download.

I've got a version 1.0 Freespace2.exe. In fact I have all three CDs copied to my hard drive. It's a pain though since I just have the files, not CD images so I can play movies either.

Anyway, if anyone wants a copy of the version 1.0 Freespace2.exe just drop me a line at amills1@bigpond.net.au and I'll e-mail it back to you.

Thanks for the file, but the update program still knows that I don't have a non-cracked install. I think it wants fs2.exe.

Copy the .mve files to your freespace2\data\movies directory (you`ll have to create it) and they should start to work.

Thumbs up

Thanks, HolyWhippet.

For clarification, in order to run the FS2 patch program, you will need both the v1.0 Freespace2.exe and the fs2.exe. Once you have those, it works fine.

Now if anyone knows of a working location to download the voices...

the voice files used to be at this link:
http://210.0.163.146/fileshare/stu_fs2.rar
but I cant access it now , dont know if its temporary or not. If yo can access them you need winrar to unzip them.
