I have that problem, also. It never happened before I installed SP1. After a set length of cumulative (I can play Freespace 1 or 2 for x minutes in total. I don't know what x is, but it is fairly constant) Freespace time, it locks up completely and I have to push the Reset button. This can be in one 'long' burst of Freespacing or in little bits, like when I test a new beam effect, etc. and immediately quit. It will lock up anywhere in the game, whether it is in a menu or in the game itself. This happens with FS1 as well.
All the drivers are at their most recent version (through Windows Update and manual downloads) and both Freespaces are patched completely.
I'll try the 95 compatibility mode, but none of the compatibility modes have ever done anything for me in the past, so my hopes are not high.

My Specs:

AMD Duron 1200
Abit KT7A
640Mb 133MHz SDRAM
ATI Radeon DDR 32Mb (original model)
Creative SB Live 1024

WinXP Pro SP1 (1st HDD)
Win98 SE (2nd HDD)
Linux Mandrake 9.0 (1st HDD)

It's not about hd's but partitions.

And how it is that all of suddenly all freaks having problems with FS2 crawled to daylight from under the rock?
Just kidding.

I wish I could help but I haven't had any problems with FS2 and XP sp1. FS2 even worked when other games didn't.

It may be the new beta drivers for my Radeon. I installed these and games started dying left and right. I have uninstalled the new drivers and re-installed the old drivers and I will test it as soon as I get back (I don't trust Driver Rollback - it didn't ask for a reboot). These drivers killed allsorts of games: Gore, Battlezone 2, both Freespaces, The Sims (??) and more. I don't know about the Detonator drivers any more, so I can't help with them, but anyone with Radeons, ignore the new 'beta' drivers like the plague.
