i didn't say they could jump from ANYwhere to ANYwhere, i meant that they might be able to use living, dying and dead nodes to enter subspace.
As the Admiral of the GTD Aquitaine said, the Shivans possess advanced subspace technologies.
So, i think as long as there WAS a node, they can use it, even if it is or dying or living.

However, I still don't get where the Sathanes went at the end of FS2, as an intra-system jump would not take you away from a nova. Maybe they jumped to a jump node outlying Capella and then double-jumped through the jump node back to Shivan-controlled space (try saying that 3 times fast!) or perhaps they can go anywhere? Who knows?
Well a supernova can`t travel faster than lightspeed so it all depends where the jump node to GD was.
Earth is 8 1/2 light minutes away from the sun so if the node was that far away it would probably give the juggernauts time to jump to the node recharge their engines and get a few ships out before the radiation got to them.
Pluto on the other hand is 30 times further from the sun so a node at that distance would probably give the shivans enough time to get out their entire fleet.

There could be a massive alien fleet there and we'd never know it. :/

Nope, sorry. NASA operated a few discrete missions on the farside of the moon to implant tranmitters to search for deep-space "life." So far, nothing.
But that'd be cool if there was even one huge Sathanas or even a Lucy on the far side of the moon. (goes away and thinks about it...) er, maybe not...

No, what would be more dangerous than a Sathanas is a Dragon. We'd probably never shoot it down, and it would report back to the main Shivan fleet. Then we'd have the whole Shivan fleet, but no military in space.

There is no NASA... there is no government.
