FS and FS2 should run under XP in native mode. You shouldn't (and its recommended that you don't) have to fiddle around with the compatibility modes in order to get it to work.
Microsoft should have kept the compatibility modes in XP the way they had them in 2000 SP2 where you had to register a DLL before you could use them. Too many people see them as a panacea to all their XP compatibility ills and then point the finger at XP when they don't work (a frequent occurrence in my experience).

Upgraded as in going and upgrading upon the existing system...do you have any idea how many frickin errors that causes?

So true.

Not always, but frequently enough to recommend clean install.

In fact no upgrade from anything to anything isn't worth it. I upgraded from 98 to 2k, from ME to 2k, from 2k to XP, all were ending in complete disaster.
I remember upgrading and then switching winamp on...."ILLEGAL OP, SAVE THE WORK CUZ IM SHUTTIN DOWN IN 59, 58, 57, 56, 55, 54".....you get the picture

I hate it when it does that. I used to get theat error all the time with ME. Now i have XP. The only thing i dislike about it is the OS interface graphics (start bar, window frames, etc..). Very ugly little things.

True that BlackDove. I never tell people at the store I work at to just do the upgrade. I tell them that they should do a full reformat (heck, I always do FDISK to clean everything out) and then install. As long as you've got a prior Windows version on hand, your set.
Unfortunately, formatting is usually beyond the scope of most peoples computer abilities. So its not always the best option.

heh, I don't need to change the look of my XP, I'm perfectly happy with the "Silver" theme that comes with XP (arguably the best of the three you're given). I don't really see what everyones problem is with the new look, I've been using it for a year or more (I even used the default "Blue" theme for a few months) and it's no less functional than the old one. It's just as radical a shell upgrade as the old one was from Windows 3.1, once you get into the groove everythings fine.

Yup...I like silver alot. I haven't found many custom XP skins that work really well...too many of them are too focused on fancy color schemes and aristry and forget to make some stuff look cool but work like it should.

Personally, I use the "Focus" theme for XP.
Clean, elegant, and I like how I can choose black, green, blue, or red for highlight colors (all with grey/silver as the primary) ... so I can match my theme to my wallpaper
ThemeXP has it somewhere. It's a nice theme, you might want to check it out.
