Yes i did add the registry hack.....but it would have been sodding easier if there was a program to run to do it.

well, it says that the info should be there, but it isn't so i had to add it in there.

It makes it look all better and all, but the Stars Disappear when i stop moving.

When i use my 3DFX Card, the stars are always there.

I am going to have to setup a new computer for 3DFX Based Games.

FreeSpace
FreeSpace 2
Unreal Tournament

I want to know how the 3DFX cards benefit from high-res textures. They can only do 256x256 textures.

The cards like the RivaTNT and upwards can deal with it better for sure.

i have noticed on FreeSpace 1 that 3DFX Glide looks better then Direct3D.

FreeSpace 2, D3D and Glide look the same.

Believe it or not, but my old Voodoo 5 playing Freespace 2 on 3DFX Glide @ 1024x768 is smoother then my ATI Radeon 9000Pro 128MB running at 1024x768x32

Explain that

Simple....FreeSpace 2 uses DirectX5...and FreeSpace uses DirectX4 (or 3 was it?). Thus Glide had much better performance than Direct3D at the time...

With registry hacks and the latest hardware, FS1 can be made to look better than Glide cards ever could (they had limited max texture sizes VS the RivaTNT and better).

i just don't know how to get the freaking reg hacks to work....

Perhaps a vet-reg-hacker should make a file so that you can just run the program to add the info.

Making registry keys that add data to your registry is pretty duh-easy, it's like a text file.

I'm familiar with the theory, but I wouldn't want to release one without making sure it was triple-checked by someone better than me

Setehk put up a great guide on how to do the hacks on HLP once. You can find it here

The hacks shown here are for FS1 but work equally well with FS2.

I tried them with FS2 once and they didn't make a shred of difference. Maybe when I get a better video card (I'm currently using a Riva TNT) they'll work...

And if you still need a file to enable them (on FS1 at least, I didn't bother making one for FS2 because of the above problem) I have one: http://www.westnet.com.au/gweber/FSHacks.zip

Just download it, unzip it and then double-click the .reg file. It will ask you if you want to merge the file into the registry. Click 'Yes.'
