well I wouldn't say that DVD sets would please a certain subset of B5 fandom.. a game is possible.

B5 is probably too old and too 'niche' for a successfull game..... when it was first run, maybe. Now, a lot of public interest would have waned... if something else, a TV series, movie, etc was successful, that could revive it. But it's doubtful.

JMS said it isn't a series so who knows. I'm not opposed to a game but I'm not getting my hopes up.

why would a game based on B5 sell worse than a game with no license at all? some companies are still making space games.

I think it's probably either a game or.. a release date for the first DVD in series one. I can't think of much else....

Because, sci-fi tends to have an image of geeky fans who take themselves too seriously and dress up in lycra and polystyrene costumes.... mainly due to Star Trek.

That tends to put off people, who don't wanted to be grouped into that niche..... I wouldn't buy a Star Trek game, for example. in fact, when I bought FS2, I wouldn't have bought a Babylon 5 game, because I'd never really seen the TV series and didn't have any real knowledge of it.

Pretty much all sci-fi based on tv tends to get tarred with the 'Star Trek' brush... the only other major brand is Star Wars, which has a lot more mass market appeal because it's more accessibble (shorter stories), and a lot more about fighting

Not to mention that it is the very harcore bunch of players that would buy the game, no matter whether B5 is in fashion at the time or not. This has been stated both by the previous game developers and the Sector 14 Studios CEO Richard Brewer, and I share their point of view.

The "bit" will be about a newly licensed B5 game lisence. I've known and worked with ItF Devs and S14S as the previous owner of B5:ItF Finland website long enough to smell when something is cooking, and my gut has been saying this from the beginning.

All you have to do is look at the FirstOnes Babylon 5 forums, connect some dots together and you have a picture.

Question is, is that enough for success? Games tend to take several years and oftne millions to develop and market.... targeting that at what is effectively a very small 'niche' is very dangerous... IFH was the first project that Sierra canned when they were in trouble, which sort of indicates it was either the costliest, or the riskiest (Question is, was that license exclusive?)

It would definately be a risk. On the other hand, risks sometimes pay off big time, so good luck if that happens to be the case.

but I stand by the 'sci-fi geek deterrrent factor'. i had no interest in any sci-fi pre-FS (I did watch the first series of B5 when it aired in the uk, but that was a very long time ago and mostly for the SFX), and it's definately something I felt.

What ITF needed was a killer box. Any game with a killer box will sell.

Make it all fire....all explosions overlayed on fire...and ships just barely visible...people like fire and conflict on the box.
