I always figured that the Hecate-class were just carriers with a bit of weapons just for the sake of it
The Hatchepsut looked alot more like a ship built to annihilate other capships.
About the Colossus, It is one wimpy ship, but I guess that's cause of those steenking laser cannons and the turret limit of the FS2 engine.

Btw, are you going to use a modified fs2 executable in the final mod?

Yeah, the Colossus was just pointless. Sure, it was big and everything, but not as invincible as it should have been.

Seeing as the Colossus sucks so much, I dare you to take a wing of bombers and try and take it out.

Its a little less wimpy than any of you may assume.

Oh and toss in a few friendly capital ships of cruiser, corvette, and destroyer size. Just for the sake of argument.

Yes! Hecate gets better anticap ship weps give it's front cannon a LRBGreen or something
oh in one of the command brifes, i shows a Hecate with Turrets along the two "planks" or sides of the Hecate, it would be sweet if it was in the game...:P

Oh, besides giving the Golgotha it's front Meson beam, are u guys gonna give it Secondary beams such as BFGreen? cause if it's front cannon is disabled, it is screwed.
but hey, maybe thats how you will stop it in the campaign

I figured though that the Orion's massive hangar bay made up for its lack of anti-fighter defences. Even so, the Hecate has the better there.

Its main beam weapons consist of 1 Main Meson Gun, 2 BGreens, and 4 MGreens (a medium version of the BGreen).

So its broadside firepower rivals that of the Orion. Its quite a capable ship...even with its main beam cannon destroyed. But its fighter bay is much smaller. So its more of a weapons platform than an all out destroyer and ultimately its more of a prototype design than anything else.

Without a supporting battlegroup, and/or fighter protection, the Colossus could succumb to such a taskforce. All the bombers have to do is neutralize Big C's beams (not hard, I've done it before). While that's happening the capships just have to fight conservatively until the juggernaut's teeth are pulled. More time consuming than downright hard.

As with any versus argument, it's the situation that counts more than the established statistics of ships.

hmm......just a thought, but does anyone else here think that Laser turrets are useless for destroying things and only good for destroying bombs?(and you have fighters to do that)
I'd might as well strip the Orion's and Colossus's triple Laser turrets and replace them with something more useful...
The laser blasts in the Fs2 intro looked much better, in my opinion

Well, considering the age of the Orion class, I'd think they'd probably go through a Service Life Extention Project(SLEP) if the GTVA were in need of it's services for a few more years.

Example of reconstructions drawn from rl navla ships I suppose would be the SCB upgrades done to the Essex and Midway classes. The Midway soldiered on with upgrades to a tender age of 47 before being decommissioned. Since CVN-65 Enterprise is slated to serve for over 50 years before decomissioning(53 years as of her planned retirement in 2013...) it probably isn't a stretch for the GTVA to refit/rebuild the newer Orions to extend their useable lives.(If only long enough to replace them with newer Destroyer types, considering this would most likely be the second such refit in their careers the first being beam weapon upgrades.)

I have a concept for such a refit, but so far all I have is writing for it.(Will post if anyone wants to see it...but anyway.)

As for the Colossus, it's underrated simply due to the nature of the game's layout and relatively small fighter screens employed in-game. I'm sure most of you who are putting down the vessel would think otherwise if you saw it's full fighter compliment bearing down on you.
