It's not the faster CPU... I play FS2 on a 1.4 Thunderbird and it just gives me higher framerates.

Something else is messed up here. You ARE running the latest FS2 patch, right?

Did you turn up the time compression accidentally? Hold shift and press comma a few times, see if that helps.

You aren't running a Windows performance enhancer, are you? Windows' kernel can in fact be overclocked, via modifying the realtime clock. Make sure your system clock doesn't have synchronization problems, because a small change in clock speed (not clockspeed) can break the balance between realtime and relative time.
