I did make a very basic mod in Quake2 "ballistic" all guns, no rockets, rails & energy weapons.

Added new weapons (which had to done in the code). Animations frame listing, Code altering, code adding functions. respawneble / breakable map things in multiplayer. Random different sounds in jump sounds.

And stuff like that, but never released it, as CS came along and looked similar regarding the escape scenario. And the HL engine is better looking than the q2 engine so I stopped developing as it where a one man job.

So I would say I have basic understanding as I learned a lot during that. And have my trusty book from the creator of c++ himself. Arne Stoutrup. Who is also Dane btw .

I'm new here...

I just found out about the release on Bluesnews. I thought Freespace 2 was a wonderful game and am interested in the code. Haven't played around with game modifications, yet. I'm just completing a Comp Sci degree and my language of choices is C++. Also have a year of university graphics experience and openGL experiance. From just a quick glance at the readme file included with the code and a look at the VC++ workspace I think I can learn a lot by poking around in the source. Fun to see how the pro's do their thing (and intimidating to look at all those different files). Many thanks to Volition for releasing it.

I'm a professional game programmer with 3 years industry experience.

I have the skills

The question... is if I have the time. Between working at my job, and working on my handheld games startup... it's gonna be tight.

Yes, I do. I've learned C, and have quite a deal of experience hacking around with the Descent source.

EDIT: ****
Looks like you need MSVC or the like to compile this. No good for my DJGPP. Blah.

I do! I've written mods & utilities for several games, and I'm trying to start my first commercial project. I don't have a LOT of time, but probably more than some others.
