Actaually that is MY voice, over a $5 PC mic, while I had lerengitis. I will consider reworking the sound file. I wanted to add camera shaking anyway.

We will be releasing 3 versions;

800x400 1.4 gigs
640x320 1 gig
320x210 368 megs

All these sizes are unzipped but the files are already pretty compressed so zipping won't help much. Codec is Indeo 4. We chose it because almost everyone has it, though we like divx better.

Keep in mind there are only three guys working on this thing. I made and textured all the models and built most of the scenes. And two friends of mine are working on rendering and streamlining the scenes.

I'm not all that happy with the textures but then texturing really isn't my bag. I'm a good modeler, but and my textures usually come out a bit simple. The fighters textures however is VERY highly detailed, with control panels, kill marks stenciled on the hull and carbon scoring around the engines, as well as a numbered designastion 1-14 on the nose and ventral wing and a squad logo the "49th Wasps".

Any opinons on the character work? It was all done in Poser, and we're considering redoing it all in Maya but that would be alot of work, do you think it would be worth it?

Thanks for your input.

Were about 1/2 done rendering and were just over 500 hours total render time.

Our render farm consists of:
22 SGI O2s
4 SGI Octanes
5 SGI Octane 2s
1 late model CRAY (664 processors)

and each of our home PCs.

There was virtualy no post process time as I used very little layering and compositing. Almost everything you see in each scene was rendered all at once. My partners give me a hard time about this, as it makes there job of stream lining the files alot harder. Some files require 5 gigs of RAM to begin rendering, primarily to cash all the particles we have in each scene.

on a 56K I'm not gonna d/l a 23 meg file, let alone a 1.5 gig one..

I was just wondering:

could you post some screens so I could comment more on it..

on a professional note, if this is a trailer, at 420x210 I do not think it should be 23 megs. look up divx.com, and try using compressed audio.

I wouldn't restrict the codec to indeo on the premise that "pretty much everyone has it" - I for one would rather download 2 megs from DIVX, rather than 1.5 gigs from you.

also, I'd restrict your maximum resolution to a width of 764, because this is as high as anybody's television ever could show.
the extra few pixels you'd get from 800x400 is unnecessary.. as is anything over 30 fps..

can i ask, how did you create morningstar?, like what programs did you use, etc.

also how long should it take a 56k modem at about 3 kilobytes per second to download a 1.5 gig file? (23 megs took about 1 hour and half, so make it 24 divide by 1.5 hours, maybe, its like every meg takes 4 mins, so 1,500 megs, it think, then divide by 4 mins, (i hope this is right) and that equals 375 mins? divide that by 60 mins it should take 6 and a quarter hours? unless i have to multiple where i divded, then its 100 hours (4 days), darn i hate math)

speaking of movies, hows the tbp intro coming along?

fair enough - I had no way of knowing how long the trailer was.. it being a trailer I was assuming about 30 - 45 seconds..

Still, when I convert a 100 meg indeo vid into a DIVx it comes out at about 30 meg.

True, and I know some amazing DivX and MPEG2 masters, and I'd reccomend those codecs (MPEG2 more than others because it's truly platform agnostic; MPEG2 is what your DVD uses ) and/or a well-done DivX5 release. But that's just me.

It's 4 minutes 45 Seconds long.

Alright you talked me into it. We will release a DIVX version 750x350 24fps this version will have reworked audio and camera shake. I will NOT however compress my audio under any circumstances.
This reworked preview will probably come out about the same time as the film itself though so...

Xophod: you might try actually reviewing the material and the previous posts before making specific suggestions... :P

Once the webiste is back up it will have screen shots.

When I try downloading it I get an estimate of 6.5 hours.

I used Rhino to create all the models, Photoshop to create planar textures, Maya to create materials and scenes and Renderman to render the files.

Comments on the character work would be VERY appreciated...
