Well technically Guatamala, Belize, Honduras, et al are all on the North American continent as well, but I digress.

There are many reasons for the Agamemnon ordering ramming speed. Another possible reason is that either the targeting scanners and/or the weapon energy reserves were damaged to the extent where no weapon could fire.

Pffff what JMS wanted to mention was US but that would be cheap (oh duh, US = earth) I mean who would miss mexico or guatemala, belize or honduras?
Canada there was more the chance to hit trees or reindeers
On the other hand If they destroyed my country the spanish wouldnt have any more football players for their multi-milianaire league. That would annoy milions and ruin the economy

Ramming speed is only usually called for if the reactors have taken massive damage, or because the Forward Main Guns would've produced slightly more energy than the side ones. Perhaps that's the reason.
