Thats what I have. A Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D. I find that it has a good rudder. It doesn't seem loose at all and only moves when you want it to move. Still, as always it's down to personal preferance.

I always use the Keyboard and Mouse (with extra buttons on it) combination. I couldn't get used to a joystick for a flight sim (couldn't control my ships properly). All depends on what you prefer.

I got a Gullimot Jet Leader Pro. Force Feedback with rudder thumb wheel and about 12 buttons. Finally been able to stop using ALT-J to jump out.
Cheapest FFB Joystick in history and not half bad either!

I never liked Force Feedbacks. Give me a crisp digital stick with like 8 buttons and I'm set. FFs always felt ... funny.

In fact, i use a Wingman with only 4 buttons. The most annoying thing of it its the (useless in my opinion) z-axis (who wants to control thrust without any precision?), and the issues with calibration (when im calibrating, the center point moves erratically, so i have to use huge "dead zones" ).
But I never considered playing a flight or space sim w/o joystick. Years ago, when I played Tie Fighter CD, my friends bought me the game and my sister the joystick.
The only sim i played only with the keyboard was Apache Longbow, I think.

well what I have to say to these arguments???
Tomcat said he would hardly hit anything with his Precision pro 2
Well I have the force feedback version (have feedback disabled)
and the only explanation to tomcats complaints might be:
-you didnt set up it right
-You set up right but your too fundamentalist ot to be patient enough to get used to it.
-You suck as a pilot. better swich to truck driving... on second thought :trycicle, its safer fo unsespecting walkers.
I can say basicly the same for those anti-twist rudders radicals. only if you understood the pottential it has...
And I hit every target at close range combat and with full afterburners (I have turbo fs2 tables). I can manage all function while I fly and even combat or evade missiles.
Those pro-mouse/keyboard fools sure its fine for long range aiming, but it must be hylarious observing one of these poor guys dragging it furiously ( as skullar said: Shrab shrab shrab LOL ) when at close range.
instead of sicks they must buy larger desks!!!!!
Those who said Force feedback feels strange:
-You can always set feedback off.
-its more precise because intead of springs controlling the tension you have a magnetic field wich avoid that odd feeling caused by the springs being attached in cross formation. the tension is not the same in all directions.
-the springs will never break because there are none.
-you wont fell vibration or noise when springs elongate.
-you wont get your stick lighly off centered when the springs are old.
-With FF you can adjust tension as you see fit.
-its programable so you have all fucntions at your finger tips (Shrab shrab shrab shrab)
